For an experimental glider, do you have to record a TN performed on the glider ?
Does it need and A&P signature ? Dan |

Short answer..........Yes. Why wouldn’t you record a factory ordered TN? If it required specialized work, then the fellow who did the work should put it in the logs. Many TN’s end up as AD’s and the AD is signed off as “ complied with by installing TN xxxx.
Hope this helps, JJ |

Dan I would hope that questions like this go to the person who does your annual condition inspection. Including discussing with them any work you intended to do on the glider before doing it. Is the TN a major alteration? Likely not, but if it is... what does your operating limitations say? If it is your FSDO likely needs to get involved and you need to go back to a test flight program. If it's not a major alteration... You should be recording all significant stuff in the log. Including TNs. Why would you not, you want to establish the glider was well maintained and TNs complied with. Unlike a type certified glider you don't need an A&P IA (or A&P) signature for a return to service. |

So I can perform a TN or an AD (?) myself, without an A&P signature for an experimental "Racing and exhibition" glider ? Dan |

ADs specify what they require and who must do them. TNs often do as well. And don't let anyone tell you that ADs don't apply to experimental ships.

The guy that did the TN should sign it off in the log book! Your annual inspection authority will double heck if he has any questions. I have signed off a TN on the Duster before I was an A&P with my pilot license number and signature.

Performing TNs with an A&P is SOP. A TN could become an AD. And an AD would make you INOP, which would mean you would need your A&P ASAP. So IMO, you should follow the SOP and talk to your A&P.
YMMV. LOL! |

Another of the many reasons for logging maintenance work is resale. The prospective buyers might want to know.
