Well, my airplane got a quick annual this year.
I brought N56713 to the aeroclub hangar Friday at ~5pm after flying it around the pattern to get it warm. One A&P and I worked on it until 10pm. Saturday, I worked with the A&P and IA from 8am until 5:30pm to finish it up. Only problems were adding fluid to the struts, repair of the trim indicator (I have no idea when that broke), and replacement of the shroud for carb heat. Annual inspection and repairs cost me 16 hours for the A&P and IA and ~15 hours of my time. Plus the cost of the oil, oil filter, air filter, and, of course, the shroud. Can you believe that a new shroud costs over $800? For me, this wasn't the least expensive annual inspection and repair, but definitely the quickest in calander time. The airplane was in the hangar less than 24 hours. -- Bob Noel looking for a sig the lawyers will like |

Bob,
I too had a heart attack at the price of these things. I shopped around rather than pay the ridiculous $600 Piper wanted. I had my heat shroud top and bottom "overhauled" by Aircraft Exhaust Systems out West (USA) somewhere. The city name was something unusual like "Jumping Branch" in Wyoming, I believe. The cost was $150 each for the top an bottom. They reused one of the end brace plates and made up the rest from new material. I was very satisfied with the work. The unit has been in service for 5 years and still is in top shape. It was clear that they hand made the units, but the fit was excellent. Good Luck, Mike Bob Noel wrote: Well, my airplane got a quick annual this year. I brought N56713 to the aeroclub hangar Friday at ~5pm after flying it around the pattern to get it warm. We just our 172M out of the shop as well...
We did OK, a slipping clamp on the carb heat control, (worked OK, would slip slightly at extremes) and a slightly not true exhaust flange on one cylinder.. Rest of plane was very OK. 12 hours shop time. - We opened the panels/access covers, and closed them up under supervision of the engineer. Saved about 4 hrs shop time. (est.) Sure feels good to have it back in service ! Was only down for 3 days.... Dave On 20 Mar 2005 12:45:15 GMT, Mike Spera wrote: Bob, I too had a heart attack at the price of these things.
