Hi all -
According to the CNN web site, CNN will be having a program tonight entitled, "Defending the Skies: The threat small planes and their pilots pose to security." It's on at 8 PM EDT (on "Paula Zahn NOW"). Should be interesting to find out how much of a threat we are. http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/ Charles. -N8385U |

In contrast, ABC's website already has a decent editorial by their
resident pilot advisor: http://abcnews.go.com/US/Travel/story?id=748540&page=1 |

Assuming it wasn't filled with explosives or a dirty bomb, just how much damage could a Cessna 152 do to a building anyhow. I have a better idea, given that my brother just reported home alive from the Syrian border: "Defending America: The threat that politicians and their policies pose to security." -c |

Larry,
I will have to agree with you it sure does look gloomy, Iran would be no problem if we were not already stretched in Iraq. But I really worry about North Korea, their Chinese buddies liked helping them out during the first go around. And strategically it would behove the Chinese to help the North Koreans again. That IMHO, could get mighty ugly. Both Iran and North Korea are so skilled at propaganda, unless you're deep into the intelligence community, I doubt that any of us has the slightest picture of reality in those countries, nor the qualifications to determine how much of a threat, if any, they pose at this point. That IMHO, could get mighty ugly. The Chinese are playing both sides here. Crazy Kim serves their purposes but they have to make sure not to give him too much leash. The elephant in the room is Japan. Their air force and navy are first-class and very modern. They reprocess plutonium for power plants and they already build satellite-launching rockets that could deliver a nuke quite nicely. Technologically they are far ahead of anyone except us, and that's only because they've refrained from investing in defense the way we do. It would take them 5 years at best to become a regional military superpower, and the Chinese don't want that to happen. The last thing they want is the Japan Self-Defense Forces standing between them and Taiwan. So long as the Japanese aren't too scared they stay largely pacifist, but this is changing as the WWII generation dies out. -cwk. |

Even packed with explosives, an airplane is not a good delivery vehicle
against concrete buildings. No velocity, no penetration. Just leaves a big charred mark on the outside I would think. -- Hello, my name is Mike, and I am an airplane addict....
