OK, this may sound silly, but can you report either
good or bad experiences with a SPECIFIC MAKE AND MODEL of USB-to-serial converter ? We have many reports of units that don't work properly, and a few that do (but not necessarily for everyone). A few specific questions: - what is the make and model of the converter ? - did the driver install without dire warnings from Windoze about "uncertified driver" and the like ? - you are using it with Windoze XP, which SP (service pack) ? - does your laptop sometimes crash after you "resume" ? - has the helpful MS site explained (after a crash) that you need to update the driver, and directed you to a site with only non-arabic characters (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or somesuch) ? - have you got scary messages like "thread stuck in kernel" ? - does it work reliably with SN10 PC-Link (log, database) ? - does it work reliably with SN10 "software load" ? This should help us collate some recommendations... Thanks in advance ! Best Regards, Dave "YO" |

Dave,
I have been successful with the Radio Schlock "6 foot USB to Serial Port Cable", catalog #: 26-183. Answers to your questions: - did the driver install without dire warnings from Windoze about "uncertified driver" and the like ? No. I got the standard "uncertified drive" warning, which I ignored without any obvious adverse results. - you are using it with Windoze XP, which SP (service pack) ? XP Professional version 2002 with SP2 - does your laptop sometimes crash after you "resume" ? You mean any more than it normally does? No. - has the helpful MS site explained (after a crash) that you need to update the driver, and directed you to a site with only non-arabic characters (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or somesuch) ? n/a - have you got scary messages like "thread stuck in kernel" ? n/a - does it work reliably with SN10 PC-Link (log, database) ? n/a Successfully used to attach to a Garmin GPSMap76 using both G72Win and SeeYou. - does it work reliably with SN10 "software load" ? n/a This should help us collate some recommendations... Thanks in advance ! Best Regards, Dave "YO" Good luck. P3 |

Belkin FSU409 I also use a Belkin FSU409 and have had one incident of it crashing my Dell laptop while trying to download a flight from my CAI Model 20. On the other hand have had no problems using it with my Model 25 in my other glider. Using XP Pro with SP2. Casey Lenox KC Phoenix |

Thanks Casey - Have you used this for both PClink and software load
(ILEC SN10) ? Did you get "unregistered driver" or other warnings, or have to upgrade the driver ? Thanks ! Best Regards, Dave "YO" |

Dave, why don't you upgrade the SN-10 to a USB connector?

Best Regards, Dave "YO" Hi Dave- It works fine with PCLink for the Model 25 (LS-8) but for some reason did not with trying to download a flight from the Model 20 (Nimbus)....we just sent that Model 20 GPS/NAV in for updated software so it may be a Cambridge issue.....I'll let you know. After mine failed TS1 used his laptop to download it without a problem.....he has an old laptop with a serial connnection though. I have not used mine to upload updates or TP databases into the Model 20 so can't answer that part.....works fine with the 25. Resulted in missing a nice long flight for OLC......you hear that Mitch??? ;-) Casey |
