In the past. someone had provided a formula
for painting a corkscrew on a prop spinner but I seem unable to find it. Can anyone help as I'd like to paint my new spinner? Thanks, Dick |

That should get you there. I think I'd like to do that barber-pole stripe thing too. |

I am the one that posted the original question...Below is the question and
response I received from Brian W. The only difference was I used a "dry erase" pen instead of tape. I hand painted the stripe, then let it dry, erased the pen mark, and painted the remainder. Worked great! Also a picture of the finished product! http://home.mchsi.com/~pianome2/leftside.jpg Does any of you old-timers, or young'uns have an idea of how to put a barber-stripe on a spinner? I'm having a heck of a time putting tape on and keeping it even. Also what size stripe would look best? It is a 9" diameter by 12" tall. Disclaimer: I have not done this..... Spray spinner with body color (white or yellow) Measure four points on the base of the spinner, evenly spread at 90 degrees from each other, i.e. 7.069 inches apart around the base circumference. Draw four lines to the apex of the spinner. Along the first line, mark intervals of one inch from base towards apex. That's 12 marks. Move to the next line: starting 1/2 inch from the base, mark intervals of 1 inch towards the apex. There will be 12 marks Move to the next line: starting at the base, mark intervals of 1 inch there will be 12 marks Move to the last line: starting 1/2 inch from the base, make 1 inch intervals. Using THIN (1/8 inch) masking tape, lay a spiral line forward of the base point of line one, forward of the first mark on line two (1/2 inch forward), forward of the first mark on line three (1 inch from base), forward of the 2nd mark on the fourth line (1.5 in from base) back tothe second mark on line 1 at 2 inch from base progressing 1/2 inch per line towards tip. Then... Using thin masking tape, lay a spiral of tape aft of the base point of line three, aft of the 1st mark on line 4 (1/2 inch from base) aft of the first mark on line 1 (1 inch forward from the base). Fill in the ragged mask area between the two smooth edges. Adjust the apex end for a pleasing center pattern. Spray stripe with contrast color yellow for white body, black for yellow body. Remove masking tape. If I have described the markup correctly, this will give a one inch wide yellow spiral on 1 inch wide white spiral. (or a 1 inch black and 1 inch yellow spiral) Brian W |
