Navy officials are denying a report by the Project on Government
Oversight (POGO) which claims a new V-22 Osprey airplane suffered engine damage, lost power, and made an unplanned landing after flying into icing conditions. http://www.pogo.org/p/defense/da-051001-v22.html |

It may or may not have been equipped with de-icing equipment. Half a dozen paragraphs of amateurish conjecture and basic background information. Project On Government Oversight... Hmm, an organization of people with good intentions, heavy on noisemakers and light on people with the ability to find out and understand technical information. Their childish reporting takes away from their messages that may have real merit. This article was written by "Eric Miller," their "Senior Defense Investigator." His statement "And now we find out the aircraft can't even fly into a cloud" is plain stupid. Did he actually talk to (and heaven forbid, LISTEN TO) any knowledgeable aviation person? He confuses himself with the term compressor stall and equates it to engine failure. There is no discussion of anti-ice equipment (did the author learn there is a difference between anti and de-ice?). I'll stop there. Not everyone is cut out for science and engineering, but geez, it's not hard to find one who is and talk to them. If this were a highschool paper, it would earn a C- or D on technical accuracy and lack of research. Thanks for the story about our Constitutional freedoms being squandered by morons like this. I _am_ in a good mood today. |
