Hey-
I found a web site where they are raffling off a Cirrus SR-20G2 in August. Tickets cost $100, are most likely tax deductible. Proceeds benefit Police Survivors. Check out: http://cops-cirrus.easystorecreator.com/store.asp Anyone know if this is legit? It would be nice to win a cirrus for $100. I bet the taxes on the winner will be a bit steep though. I dont see why it would be illegal. However I will point out one thing I
noticed in the rules that caught my attention: "In the event enough tickets are not sold to cover the costs of the prizes, C.O.P.S. will post this information on its web site along with a form to request your donation to be refunded (minus a ten percent handling fee) The grand prize will be a 2006 Cirrus SR-20G2." So, if they dont get $300,000.00 worth of ticket buyers, they automatically collect 10% of everything regardless, and you are stuck with the hassle of getting back your $90.00 per ticket. It would nice to win, but I have to admit that I would just sell it and use the proceeds to put down on a house. -- John Huthmaker PPL-SEL P-28-161 http://www.cogentnetworking.com "Len" wrote in message ... The ticket coasts would not be tax decductible - and in the remote
chance you won, you'd get to pay federal & state tax on your winnings (possibly based on list price?). What's left you would get to put down on a house...... I wonder what fraction of the US aircraft are sold as raffle or sweepstakes winners. Somehow, I consider that a real indictment of the value of aircraft. A friend said "lotteries are a tax extracted from those that don't understand or refuse to recognize the laws of probability" |

There is mention of the Cirrus raffle on their national web site: http://www.nationalcops.org/SpecialThings.htm Cirrus Raffle Mike Lesniowski, a ten-year veteran of the Maryland State Police, is organizing a national raffle to benefit COPS. The winner of the raffle will win a 2006 Cirrus SR-20G2 airplane valued at over $300,000.00. For more information, to read the raffle rules, or to purchase a ticket, visit the raffle website at www.cops-cirrus.com. Contact Mike via email at . (MICHAEL ANTHONY LESNIOWSKI is listed in the FAA Registry as a Private Pilot with a 3rd class medical certificate dated March 2001.) The FAQ http://cops-cirrus.easystorecreator.com/FAQ.asp indicates that 3,500 tickets need to be sold before August 31,2006. That night a ticket number will be picked. If it fails to match one of the 3,500 (of 9,999) numbered tickets, they will draw another number each month thereafter until a winning number is picked. The question I would have, is how do you know the drawing is legitimate? Given the police corruption routinely exposed in the news media, I'd want an independent organization to conduct the drawings. |

This sounds like a worthwhile group but you should read the fine print. Assuming they meet the goal of selling 3500 tickets by the date of the drawing. There is a 1 in 3 chance that someone will have a winning ticket. If no one does then the prize will likely be never awarded as they are saying they will draw another number a month and with 6500 tickets remaining 1/2 that is 3250 or 270 years before they are likely to draw the winning number. Just sent them a donation and be done with it. |
