The treadmill is irrelevant; it is the relative wind that matters.
Whether you are standing on solid ground or on a treadmill, if you have enough of a head wind, you will be airborne period. The Monk |

The Monk Doesn't the physics change if the treadmill has a Belfort instruments weather station standing next to it??? (sorry, couldn't resist)... If Belfort has a booth at Oshkosh, I'm definitely going to visit it this year (unfortunately I will then be proving the "there is no such thing as bad publicity" saying) Seriously, it is disturbing how few people in the general public can figure out that the treadmill is irrelevant to the takeoff of the plane (unless you turn the plane around backwards, park the plane, and use the treadmill to build airspeed. Makes you wonder about the quality of science & math education in the US. Eric |

Do you think an eagle soaring high in the air cares about "friction,
conveyor belts, treadmills, newton's theories, einstein's theories."? The Monk |

Eric, the OP had the question phrased in such a way as to cause some of
the readers to draw the wrong conclusions. I don't know which is worse: to have seen the error in reading and being unable to admit it, or not to have seen the error after having it explained to them in small words. Never the less, it led to a thread that made me smile a few times. I'm glad it was started. |
