Is anybody familiar with the current composition of CVW-17? The air
wing deployed 4th April aboard GW for a 2-month SoLant deployement - but only with two F/A-18 squadrons aboard: VFA-11 and VFA-81??? Kind regards, Jacek |

Kind regards, Jacek I will take a look at the GW's latest AMRR (aviation maintenance readiness report) at work tomorrow if nobody posts back before then and let you know exactly what their makeup is. oups.com... Given the press reports and released photos, yes, it would appear to be only the two F/A-18 squardons aboard. Total of some 30-35 planes only reported. Looks like CVW-17 picked up S-3s also, perhaps VS-22 of CVW-3. I guess if the USN is going to take out Venezuela for treating the US Ambassador shabbily, then this is all that you would need. ![]() JD |

Here's the breakdown for CVW-17 on cruise:
http://www.news.navy.mil/search/disp...story_id=23149 Surprised there haven't been posts claiming that strikes against Venezuela are scheduled; all for Israel of course ... |

I was offline for several days, and now I can see it... 30-35 aircraft means that there are only as many of them as the French Navy's old aircraft carrier Foch used to carry. It also resembles me the CVW compositions of carriers going East-to-West via Cape Horn. Combat potential of such a smaller air wing must be significantly reduced - though they certainly wouldn't suffer from the fuel, weapon, or hangar area shortages... ![]() Best regards, Jacek |

Thank you. Is AMRR something somehow connected with the "up" and "down"
aircraft statuses, and stores configuration boards seen in the ready rooms? Those are sometimes seen on the official Navy photos, but usually blurred - I guess for safety/counter-intelligence reasons... Best regards, Jacek |
