Default Garmin GNS 430 - cities in a flight plan?!

Is it possible to use cities as waypoints in flight plan and how?
The only way I can make a city as a waypoint is by using panning function on
the map - point to the city and then press "direct to" key.
Or it is some kind of safety feature - not to alloud to use cities as
waypoints?

Cities are pretty big. Waypoints need to be pretty small. If I'm over
Fort Lee and press "Direct NYC" what direction would you expect me to be
led?

How about using your user created waypoints by scrolling to the city
and planting one right there? Youd be limited to a 5 charactor
name,e.g., NWYRK or CHCGO or INDY.

why not just use the thousands of GPS waypoints already in place?
