Anyone using Golden Eagle's online flight planning software?

Hi Kirk,

I use the free windows client GoldenEagle FlightPrep. I like the lower
display that shows a profile view of route vs airspace, terrain, MEAs
(for IFR flights), wind, and clouds. It was not as good at routing as
the free AOPA tool when faced with high terrain and a maximum altitude
constraint (ie plan a trip from Santa Fe to Sedona and not go above
10,000)

I flew 7000 miles over 52 hours last month in a Piper Arrow and did it
all with free software pretty much in this order for each flight;
- airnav.com for planning fuel stops and opinions on various airports
- and http://www.xcpilot.com/routes/ for searching preferred IFR routes
- AOPA's real time flight planner (free, from Jeppesen) for high
terrain routing
- GoldenEagle for visualizing route vs terrain, airspace, wind, and
clouds
- good ol' www.duats.com for briefings and filing flight plans

After reading you email, I decided to try the online, browser based
version. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my PC... fails with a java
script error: wnd is null or not an object...

I use the Windows version also, but have noticed recently that it does not
display current TFRs. Has anyone else noticed this? It's very misleading,
since it does display some TFRs but not all the current ones. I haven't
pursued this with them, but am curious if this is a known problem.

Otherwise, I like the program for the same reasons stated above.

I downloaded it just after it came out. I discovered several problems. I
called CSC and discussed the problems. They couldn't figure a couple out
and gave me Jepp's number that help develop it. It has some nice
features, or could, but I was having too many problems. I am still using
the old Cirrus 5.0 software or the CSC DUATS on line for weather and
flight planning. I do not know if a newer version is out or not. Just
have not checked lately.

I had some problems with AOPA Real Time Flight Planner, but got them
worked out. The main problem was getting the planner to update. You MUST
request FAA and plain language weather to get the proper winds aloft to
transfer and give you flight plans with wind.

I always wondered why I would sometimes get wind corrections, and not at
other times.
