I remember seeing (a couple of years ago, perhaps) a 747 of some
Chinese airline where the blades of one of the turbines was actually immobilized using an assortment of bandage-like tapes. The pic was at once a hilarious and scary. I remember now that I'd failed to save the pic, which isn't smart. If anyone knows what I'm referring to and remembers a URL for the pic, I'd be glad for the information, thanks in advance. It was a Chinese airline. The engine was secured from
rotation by the use of seat belt extenders. It had landed in Germany and the Germany's grounded the airplane. wrote in message ups.com... |I remember seeing (a couple of years ago, perhaps) a 747 of some | Chinese airline where the blades of one of the turbines was actually | immobilized using an assortment of bandage-like tapes. That same Air China 747 landed at CYVR for refueling enroute to Frankfurt
but the officials here didn't have the authority to hold the aircraft. Guess the Germans did!. wrote in message ups.com... Those weren't seat belt extenders, they were palette straps. The pictures originally appeared about 5 years ago, and has been embellished since then, which seems to be the pattern on internet. The engine is shown sitting on an engine stand, and it would surprise me that the straps were put on after the engine was removed from the aircraft. Supposedly, the story does have a grain of truth in that the aircraft did land in Frankfurt with the damaged engine. |
