There's a news conference announcing it today at 11:00 AM Eastern.
Anyone know what it is? Here's the link to the online streaming
presentation:

OK, I peeked ahead in the presentation. It's a personal single-engine
jet that seems to be based on the Malibu/Mirage/Meridian airframe. The
engine is mounted on the vertical stabilizer and the wings seems to be
minimally swept back. Seats six with an optional lavatory.

Pretty cool.

Marco,

Pretty cool.

Sorry for being dense, but why? An also-ran on an old airframe. Diamond
has something like that in test flights, Cirrus has announced it. Both
with modern airframes.

Realizing that it's kind of odd that I need to explain why I find
something "cool," the fact that it has an option to have a lavatory or
seat a 7th occupant differentiates it significantly from the Cirrus and
Diamond offerings. The engine location is unique to the current and
near-future marketplace so that will be interesting to watch but the
extra cabin space for a lav/7th seat it allows is even more
interesting.

The lav is a big deal given the range and cruising altitude they are
advertising and the class of passengers that will be paying for the
aircraft. Eclipse can explain it away as much as they want to but the
reality is that NOT having a lav available when you're at FL300 makes
for one heck of a bad user experience. The descent, sequencing,
landing, taxiing and shut down makes for a long wait when one has to
take a **** and an even longer wait when the lunch you had doesn't
agree with your digestive system.

Any new design is interesting to me, however the VLJ & Light Jet
segments are pretty crowded these days, and I have to wonder if Piper's
jet would be different enough to be competitive. After all, they are
joining the party kinda late... What I'm reading is that it won't be
competing against the HondaJet which Piper is co-marketing with Honda.

Flight Deck pic looks a lot like a GM station wagon we had when I was a kid.

Interesting, one engine. Not too much of this very light jet is
revolutionary. You can buy a refurbed Cessna Citation Jet that will fly
just as fast and far and can be single piloted etc for LESS money than
these new VLJ's. And it can be single piloted. Lots of issues with
training and maintanance on these of course....Cost is about 100K per
YEAR. Not a very big market for these.

I have to agree. My prediction is that there will be a lav offered on all of
the VLJ's, before it is all said and done.

I would not book a flight of any great length on a plane that does not have a
lav, would you? Some would, but I am not alone in my view, I'm sure.

There is something to be said for an already tested airframe, and technology.
Quicker startup, less unknown problems.

The location of the engine would also seem to have advantages of serviceability
and engine changes over the other singles, I would think.
