![]() I'm filling out the 8710 for my upcoming commercial flight test and am not sure what to put into three of the fields. I'll ask my CFI next time we meet, but I thought I might get a quicker answer here. For Solo, Cross Country Solo and Cross Country PIC, I'm not sure exactly what they want. I haven't logged solo time since getting my private, so my first thought was just log the solo and cross country solo logged prior to my private and then all cross country since as PIC. However, since the commercial (FAR 61.129) requires a 300 nm solo cross country. I've made several of them, but they were all logged as PIC, not solo. So, for the cross country solo, so I list my time prior to the private and then pick a cross country of 300 nm that I flew alone and add that time in? Or do I need to try to sort out all of the cross country flights that I've logged as PIC cross country, but flew alone and list them in the solo cross country category and then list those where I had pax as PIC cross country? I haven't even indicated on many of my flights if I had pax or not... Matt |

If you were the sole occupant, then it was solo, for the purposes of the commercial rating. You were also PIC. You will need to find enough time in which you were sole occupant (I believe it has to be after the private), and notate that in the logbook entries. Matt You only have to show enough hours in each field of the 8710 that is required to qualify for the Commercial (see FAR 61.129). Don't worry about showing anything more than that. I took my commercial ride a couple months ago. I just got a call from my
CFI, that my 8710 got kicked out, because I didn't list "enough" solo time. I put down 13 hours. I've got way more than that, but 61.129 a.4 said only 10 towards the commercial. 5 night VFR 10 t/o landings etc, & the long X/C. The callback said they wanted to see 20 hours. I went back, found 50 hours of solo (only guy in the plane) & they're re-submitting it. When I questioned the change, the CFI said he was simply told by the DE that "it's changed/changing". Nice to know, I guess. PIC time is PIC time. Solo or not. I tend to put comments in my logbook. Handy for remembering who (if anyone) I had in the plane. Not so handy when everything in your logbook says, "Joe Schmoe ride" or "took girlfriend to xyz" & you gotta *prove* so many hours of 'solo'. (also the wife shouldn't see the "took girlfriend to xyz".... I'd find at least 20 hours solo time. "Bill Zaleski" wrote in message ... Yes, my DE has a web site that lists the requirements along with several "notes" that appear to be from the FAA, but which I haven't seen anywhere else. One of the notes specifically addresses your situation above and says that 20 hours of solo must be recorded to include the 10 hours from the private. I just wasn't sure if I had to attempt to log all solo I've had or just the minimum for the commercial requirements. It appears the latter is adequate so that is what I'll do. I stopped logging solo when I got my private ... one reason being that the solo column in my log disappeared after so many pages! I wasn't thinking about a commercial certificate at that time. Matt |

I saw the 10 hour requirement for commercial & just put that down, thinking the FAA would see that as the 10 hours on top of what I had before. Hopefully the 50 hours I put down this time will satisfy them... |

The FAA can review your logbook, they do for ATP candidates,
to see what you have done for your entire experience. Make that sort of review quick and simple by noting which flights were [will be] used to show flight experience that is required to meet higher certificate qualifications. wrote in message oups.com... | | Bill Zaleski wrote: | On Wed, 22 Nov 2006 04:10:19 GMT, "Steven Barnes" | wrote: | | I took my commercial ride a couple months ago.
