Mark your calendars. The Colorado Soaring Pilots/SSA Governor's
Seminar and Awards Banquet is scheduled for February 24th, 2007, at the Clarion Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn) at Centennial Airport (same location). Price, menu selections, and presentation list to be announced, but will include history, technology, bragging rights, safety, and more. The SSA Convention promises to very interesting. Join in the celebration of the SSA's 75th Anniversary Convention, including the special events. Much of the presentation list is now on the SSA web site. There will be a clubs and chapters track Friday and Saturday afternoons as well. Shopping around, the convention hotel rates are really very, very good compared to other Beale Street area hotels. There are 591 social, youth, family, regular, and life members residing in Colorado. Would be great to see many of you there (now that I have a room reservation;^). Many SSA members have mixed feelings about contributing to the SSA Eagle Fund following the financial upheavals of the past few years. The decision to contribute or not is very much an individual one, so I sure won't preach to you. The general appeal this year has been for help the SSA office, as the front line of our organization. If that doesn't sit well with you, remember you can earmark Eagle Fund contributions for other worthwhile programs such as the Cadet Youth grant, the Kolstad Scholarship, the US Team, the Bultman Fund, and more, and you may qualify for a 2006 tax deduction if you act today. Denise Layton provides her perspective from the SSA office, and probably says it best, http://www.ssa.org/download/ssa_enews_12_19_2006.pdf. I hope the get more notes of support. I can attest that the current crop of SSA committees and the communications among directors and members has never been better. And there is much more happening than the financials. Follow the SSAVolunteers link on the web site and poke around, perhaps you'll find a committee where you might contribute and learn more about our sport and society. Best wishes to you and yours over the holidays, Frank Whiteley SSA Governor, Colorado 970-330-2050 |
