The only reference I can find on google is: "On some cars the shoulder straps of the front seat belts automatically move out of the way when you open the doors and then move back to their normal position when the doors are closed. Do not attempt to move the mechanism of these seatbelts yourself as you may damage it." What does it mean "out of the way"? I've never known my fixed seatbelt get in the way. It's not just American cars, you get them in some European ones as well. What I thought was strange is when they attach the seatbelt to the actual door frame, instead of the B pillar. Weird. I'm wondering what the point is. The normal position for the non-moving ones is correct for wearing it, and is also out of the way when you take it off. So where do the moving ones move to? A mate of mine had a 94 Plymouth Lazer when he lived in the USA. When you open the door the top mount of the seat belt (the bit usually attached to the pillar) would slide all the way down the top of the door opening to the very front of the cabin. You then get in. On shutting the door the mount slides back up to the usual place on the pillar. Basically when you get in it puts your seatbelt on for you. Advantage for this country would be that you don't get a choice - so the fanny's who think they don't need a seatbelt have more chance of surviving .... if indeed that is an advantage???? I don't really care if the retarded fat ****s wear them or not. They can die for all I care. But I do object to their stupid bodies flying out through the front windscreens and killing someone else. |
