Hello everyone;
Sorry about the absence. Our PC went for a deep six on the 15th of January with a bad bios update. Had to order a brand new system which just got here today. (No sense doing the chipset replacement as the new system was to be ordered anyway. I hope everyone has remained in good health and good spirits while I've been making this changeover in computers :-) Dudley Henriques |

It's amazing that I think I could live without my computer - no
problem... Then something happens that causes me to not have it and I run around like a madman until I get it going again... :-) Welcome back Jon Dudley Henriques wrote: You wouldn't believe the mess I've been through with computers this month :-)) Glad to be on board again. The art of the troll has been extended, further than this person has ever seen before. Your observation was correct. I no longer read any thread past his pollution and hijacking. There is a good way to do it for outlook express, if you are interested. Just ask if you want the how to's that a few of us are using. Welcome back. I _was_ beginning to wonder g -- Jim in NC |

I loaded your previous info into one computer, and it works great. Would you
send it offline or repost? The invasiveness by MXS keeps getting worse and worse. The majority of posts no longer even involve flying. |

The majority of posts no longer even involve flying. In MS OE, highlight on "tools" at the top of an open program Highlight "message rules" and from the new drop down, click on "news" On the right side, select and click on "new" In the new dialog box, in 1), check the box "where the from line contains people", then go to 2) and check the box "mark the message as watched or ignored" In the next box down, where it has a link that says "contains people" and type in Mxsmanic, then add, and OK. A new box will come up and where it says "watched or ignored", select it, and a new box will come up, put a dot in the box that says "ignore". You can then follow the procedure to apply it to the correct newsgroup. You will have to feel your way around on the next step, because my computer is already modified, and It will not show what I did, without a lot of steps backwards. Go to the "view at the top of a program page, and I think you click on view, select current view, and go down to customize view, and here it is foggy, but you go down and check hide read or ignored messages, and go on to click on hide ignored messages, and it should bring up a new selection in the drop down menu from the view at the top of the program box, that says hide ignored message. Select that box, and you are finally done. I hope you can get it done from my so-called description. It does make life much better, and it is worth the time. Cue "Mission Impossible" music! g -- Jim in NC |

For those who want advanced article screening, I suggest GNUS running on Xemacs. This works on Windows, Macs, and Linux, is free, and not hard to setup. For instance, I can ignore posts started by a given author and *all followups* to those posts. Really makes Usenet readable again. And Xemacs is an extremely versatile text editor for those with a need for something beyond Notepad. -- When I die, I would like to go peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather did.
