This is taken from DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Diseases)

Some may find classification 301.81 a good fit. There are treatment
options which I have not listed.

For the purposes of being classified as being in the group with
Narcissistic Personality Disorder, one should be in complience with at
least 5 of the 9 characteristics listed here. 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 at
least look like they fit.

DSM is published by the American Psychiatric Association but it's
accepted as a world wide reference.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (301.81)
SYMPTOMS
A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for
admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and
present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of
the following:
(1) has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates
achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without
commensurate achievements)
(2) is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power,
brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

(3) believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be
understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status
people (or institutions)

(4) requires excessive admiration

(5) has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of
especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her
expectations

(6) is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others
to achieve his or her own ends

(7) lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the
feelings and needs of others

(8) is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of
him or her

(9) shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

I just had an unkind thought: if, based on this diagnosis tool and
what seems to be the newsgroups feeling about their French experience,
would you agree Paris is exactly the right place for MX to live? If
popular images of cities could be matched to these criteria, Paris
hits 9 of 9!

Sorry for the off topic post, but I hope it at least made you smile.

Hits the point perfectly. He is a socially isolated misogynist who can't get
or hold a job, and blames this on everything and everybody other than
himself.

Yet, instead of trying to recover from a setback, he further isolated
himself by moving to a foreign country and lives in a fantasy world on his
computer, with no personal interactions. He gets the attention and personal
validation he craves through his postings on the computer.

Yes, he is pathetic, and obviously some people feel sorry for him and
welcome him. However, for most of the rest of the NG he is confrontational
and annoying. The majority of posters use the NG as a means of enjoyment and
discussion of our interest, and unfortunately he has ruined it for many.

Yet, he will never understand, since he only looks at the world from his own
narrow and self centered perspective, and unfortunately will continue to
dominate the NG until everyone else is driven away.

I forget, are we talking about MX, Captain Zoom, or JJ?

I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.
Probably a bad thing; most things are bad things.

Oh God! I can't identify JJ or DF, but have decided that I'm grateful.

I still suggest that those who find a need to rebut MX's posts should add an
identifier to the subject header--and I have expended on that thought in the
thread titled: "Don't get mad, get even."

You can see that you were exactly correct, and that his posts have actually
increased in number, as anticipated- like a petulant child.

Are there any moderated or member only aviation NGs that are similar to the
RA groups?

If not, how does one start one?
