Over a month ago Ms Maniac X was KILLFILED by me.
For me, thread volume has dropped to a readable level once again - with him (somewhat) gone. I am truely amazed at how many quotes I see where people still reply to his posts! Oh well. Unfortunately, in M$ OE 6.0, I can not block "message bodies" which contain "Ms Maniac X". (Mail Rules - YES) (News Rules - NO) ....DRAT! Montblack |

In February, and again last month, I posted instructions on how to kill his threads, and any responses to them, using OE 6 news rules. IN a nutshell, the rule marks all of threads as ignored. Any responses will also be ignored. This gets tracked by the message ID in the header, not by the subject line. So it works pretty well. The next step is to set up a 'view' that will not display ignored threads. Voila - he's gone from USENET. |

Does anyone know how can I make this work in Agent?

![]() "Richard Riley" wrote I've tried to make some combination of filters work to do this in Agent, I haven't been able to do so. W H A A A T ? ? ? Did you say that Agent could not do something that a Microsoft product (OE) can do? I NEVER thought I would hear anyone say that! Ducking and running, while grinning! :-) -- Jim in NC |

From Google Groups - March 2, 2007 Fri, 02 Mar 2007 19:04:13 GMT ("Steve Foley" wrote) This filter for Outlook Express marks his postings as ignored, and anythingvfrom that branch on in that thread. He no longer exists on my computer (Except the posts *ABOUT* him) My 2/1 post: I found the following completely eliminates mxsmanic from usenet, along withvany responses to him. Using this, Ivdon't need to killfile anyone else. Only responses to polluted threads are gone. Tools - Message Rules - News - - New: Apply this rule after the message arrives Where the From line contains 'mxsmanic' Mark the message as ignored View - Current View - Customize Current View: View - Current View - Hide Read or Ignored Messages View - Current View - Customize Current View Un-check 'Where the message has been read' Change the name to 'Hide Ignored Messages' View - Current View - Make Sure 'Hide Ignored Messages' is checked. (Montblack here) Thanks Steve, I'll give it a try. Montblack |

For the die-hard computer geeks out there, if you use GNUS on
[X]Emacs, the 'gnus-summary-lower-score function (assigned to the L key in the article buffer) will do this in a few key strokes; something like L-f-s-t-ret will lower the score of the original post and all followups. That and the automatic scoring which I think is on by default in GNUS, means I now see 1/10 of the total articles on Usenet and it's now a pleasure to read and pick through. No more nutty rants by the idiotic JH nor the followups by his redneck fanboys. No mxsmanic posts of any kind. Some new new case pops up? No programming needed, just c-k the post and after a couple of times they quietly drop from sight thanks to the auto-scoring. -- "Evolution is God's way of issuing upgrades." |

I love how opinionated and loyal people get, when it comes to software. OK, bertie, explain to a person who has had some exposure to Forte Agent, but not a lot, why, and what features make it so superior than OE. -- Jim in NC |
