For those of us mountain pilots/instructors:
http://www.helenair.com/articles/200...a/00aa.txt.txt A few months ago, I also learned that Fletcher Anderson of "Flying the Mountains" had died in a crash: http://www.usawildwater.com/news/200...6_Fletcher.htm http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief2.asp?...GA017& akey=1 |

The common denominator is......... They both wrote books on mountian flying, They both live/ lived here in Jackson Hole Wy They both act/ acted pretty cocky about their flying skills They both didn't practice what they preached. One is VERY dead One is VERY beat up. Neither were flying their own plane They both managed to ruin./ destroy someone else's plane. Ben Jackson Hole |

Ben Jackson Hole Since I have never met either pilot, I can't comment on their "cocky"ness. Highly experienced pilot gain experience by slowly pushing the envelope. The trick is knowing when to stop pushing the envelope (and your luck). I just read on the AOPA's website that the student stalled the airplane in Sparky's crash while he was taking notes (according to Sparky) 300ft off the ground. In Anderson's crash, he was probably flying really (too) low to check out the river. As I understand, he was an avid kayaker. Accidents like these always scare me because these are supposed to be experts but they seem to have a momentary lapse of judgment which leads to their demise (or the demise of their ride). |
