Gee, not only does it bear some resemblance to the Indian LCA, but it
is apparently about as far behind the original development schedule as
that dinosaur.

Why would they even waste the effort on it when they have the J-10?

Looks like bits and pieces of an F-5E, early F-16, with a dash of MiG 29 tail
tossed in. I give it a 3.7. on the "How many seconds would it last against an
F-15" scale.

Significant interest/pressure from the pakistanis, a development
partner, for one. The other factor apparently being that they see a
market for a Mig-21 replacement around the world (though why anyone
would want this turkey for that role is beyond me--replacing sixties
technology in 2010 with seventies technology seems a bit of a

I believe there are nation to which neither Russia nor the Western Powers
will sell jet fighters. Pakistan seems one example, Burma and Zimbabwe
two others. China might get something of a captive market.

Maybe. But if the PRC wants to do other than *donate* them, then Burma
(or whatever they heck they call it now) and Zimbabwe are not going to
be of much value to them.

How many of their own designs have they built? Not just building and
modifying other peoples designs but actually planning, building and flying
their own? And how long have they been doing that for?
By comparison, I reckon China is a newcomer. As for their delays/timing,
they're moving at roughly the same pace as the rest of us.
