Jay,
A great job capturing the highlites of the trip. I was there Friday and Saturday, but never made it over to the north 40 to stop in and say hello. Maybe next year, Bob |

I was there Saturday to Thursday and missed the N40HOPS because it was my first OSH and there was so much going on! One response to your writeup, perhaps because we were camped in a lower numbered row, but we did have spots that were vacated around us re-filled the same day. Also departing on Thursday morning was an adventure, they sent us off VFR on rwy 27 right into a squall. They told us to do a right downwind departure to avoid the storm which we did but then found ourselves trapped between the storm line and Lake Michigan. Had to land at SBM for about 1.5 hours to file IFR and let it clear a bit, but Chicago center was not accepting calls from the ground (a Lear sitting at the end of SBM rwy 21 futilely calling Chicago caused an interesting traffic jam) at SBM so had to scud run out of there VFR. It was SBM to Louisville (and ultimately north carolina) the hard way! (basically, but not exactly: sbm dll pll pnt kjvy) Another plane in our group that left a few minutes later didn't have to divert east before going west. Timing is everything. |
