On Sunday I was driving through Pacifica when I ran across a grass fire.
Besides fire aparatus from many local departments, there was also a contingent of CDF aircraft on scene. There was a Huey, a OV-10 Bronco, and 1,or 2, S2 tankers. Luckily, there wasn't much wind that day, so the fire didn't get out of control. The tanker(s) made one airdrop to help establish a firebreak and keep the fire from spreading. This photo will show the size of the fire. I was shooting from an elementary school located behind the trees at the lower right corner of the photo. When the tanker made it's drop, it popped up over the fire trucks on the top of the hill, and flew right over my head. You can see where the drop was made by the red streak running down the hill. |
