Is anyone else having many posts "No longer available on server", even
though they were just posted?

Never had anything like this happen before.

I've been seeing it lately. I believe it is something to do
with Shaw (may they rot in the hottest corner of Hell) going
on to the next one and coming back to click on the so called
not available will often make it available.

Hi, ZW!

Shaw's all upscrewed -- again.

This is happening more and more frequently, and I'm getting tired of it.

I've been dealing with this for nearly a week; I emailed Shaw, and got and
autoresponse.

Maybe tomorrow an ambulant human person will be there.

Last time, they told me that everything was just fine, and maybe I should
reinstall all my software. Riiiiiight. It was fixed the next day.

Hang in there !!

You need to go in and reset your preferences to keep the message longer.
They are probably expiring.

No, the expiry is automatic on Shaw's servers (although some newsreaders
may truncate this time).

These are fresh posts, i.e., ones, for instance, that I just posted
myself, and they are messaged as 'not on server', if they show up at all.....

This is a common occurrence with Shaw.

From Shaw:

"Hello

There are two major issues surrounding newsgroups: retention rates and
completion rates.

Recently, Shaw made the decision to maintain newsgroups as a value added
service for our customers, and we will continue to provide the service at
no additional charge. As we wish to provide a quality service, we have
implemented plans to deal with the above two issues. A solution to the
completion rate issue has been implemented, and a solution to the
retention rate problem is underway.

We appreciate your concern for the quality of the service. We provide them
as a value added service because we recognize our customers have a desire
to include newsgroups with their Internet and e-mail activities. Since it
is a value added service, we will not be able to credit for any issues
with them, as we do not charge for their use.

We thank you for your patience while we implement the changes required to
return this service back to the quality level you expect from Shaw
services.

Thank you for choosing Shaw."

This is ISP-ese for "we were gonna dump Usenet access altogether like a
lot of other ISPs are doing, but we didn't. It's a now a freebie that
we're tossing you like a dog treat, so don't whine, bitch or complain."

Well, if they DO get rid of NNTP, they're gonna lose a lot of business.
Mine, for one.
