Does anyone have access to any photos of this particular Mossie.
On or about 27th September 1951 this particular aircraft experienced an engine failure at a critical point when taking off from Charleville, Queensland, Australia. (YBCV) Rather than let the plane run off into the rough country at the end of the strip (and possibly ground loop & burn etc) the pilot elected to raise the u/c and bring the plane to a halt that way. My dad was able to take a photo or two (??) but I can only find one of these. I was wondering if anyone in this group may have other photos of this crashed aircraft. (The pilot survived) At one time someone in aus.aviation was able to obtain a copy of the RAAF accident report - if would be very grateful if another copy was available or if a web site may be available that has this report. Some of this information I gave to www.adf-serials.com some years ago. Search for A52-312 on adf-serials. Ordered as a Mk40 but converted to PR41 on production line and delivered as A52-312. 31/10/47 3 AD Archerfield QLD. 17/08/48 Stored. 13/09/50 3 AD Amberley. 07/02/51 87 Sqn. 12/04/51 87 Sqn Townsville QLD. 20/09/51 Engine change. 27/09/51 Crashed on take-off at Charleville QLD. 30/11/51 Converted to components. With thanks Graham |
