There's a $50 program to speed Canada/U.S. cross border transportation
for marine and highway use. Is it of any value when flying across? Scuttlebutt is that flying into Canada isn't any hassle but coming back into the U.S. can be a real PITA. |

Pre-9/11, there existed a US program similar to CANPASS, but it only applied if one was an aircraft owner. If you were a renter, you couldn't use it. Post 9/11, it went away. |

Just to be clear, though, the CANPASS program for private aircraft does still exist for going *to* Canada. I have used it after 9/11, but not recently. Info: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/canp...teair-eng.html The GATE program for return to the U.S. died on 9/11 as John says. Biggest hassle now are the advance notice requirements for Customs. You have to notify them directly, not just depend on ATC to advise them. You have to be on a flight plan and have a discrete transponder code assigned when you cross the border. And heaven help you if you have any old radium-painted instruments when you clear Customs... |
