Has anyone found an elegant way to mount a PCAS unit like the Zaon XRX on a
compound curved glareshield? I'm using the provided Velcro in one corner, various sizes of self-adhesive bumpers in two other corners, and the fourth corner is left dangling about an inch in the air. I've had to add a bit of superglue to the pads so the adhesive doesn't start sliding around when the cockpit is hot. The unit works well with the 496 TCAS input, but I would like a more secure and level mount on the glareshield. -- Best Regards, Mike. http://flickr.com/photos/mikenoel/ http://photoshow.comcast.net/mikenoel |

. .. Has anyone found an elegant way to mount a PCAS unit like the Zaon XRX on a compound curved glareshield? Ez Step 1) get a chunk of 1/8 lexan from the local hardware store - have them cut it to, oh, about 6 inches by10 inches or so. Step 2) send the wife to visit her mom for the afternoon (important - do this before step 3) Step 3) put the lexan in the oven for a couple hours at about 180 F. to drive off the water - then raise the temp. to about 250 or 300 wait for it to get rubbery Step 4) wrap the lexan around a chunk of 1x6. You will now have a platform that is about 6 inches by about 5 3/4 inches wide with two "feet" that will straddle the hump on the glare shield. If it has a strong compound curve, you will have to cut away the middle of each side to make 4 individual feet (or make adjustments with a heat gun). Stick the lexan to the PCAS with double side tape and put the velcro on the feet. A custom mount with no muss, no fuss (unless your wife catches you putting the lexan in her oven)... -- Geoff The Sea Hawk at Wow Way d0t Com remove spaces and make the obvious substitutions to reply by mail When immigration is outlawed, only outlaws will immigrate. |
