Aircraft bolt smashes through man's roof by
Robert M. Gary
http://tinyurl.com/ybrdft
"The bolt most likely came from a Boeing 747 or 767, Ten reported.
Sydney Airport officials said no aircraft had reported mechanical
problems, Ten said,
==which suggested the bolt wasn't in use at the time it fell from
the plane==
, Ten said." (emphasis added)

Where does the new East River corridor start now? by
Bob Chilcoat
I got out my trusty New York TAC to see where this thing starts, since I
hope to fly some friends up the Hudson Sunday. It's not clear what happens
just south and north of the southwestern tip of Governor's Island. Do you
draw a straight line from the southwestern tip to the nearest point on...

Today's WSJ...aviation articles 1/2 by
john smith
Today's Wall Street Journal contained two aviation articles.
The first, with a teaser atop the front page, is written by Scott
McCartney (a partnership owner in an SR-20). I thought it was pretty
well written, containing subtle critique of the Cirrus problems, pilots
and general aviation.
THE...

Fuel servo problem??? by
Robert M. Gary
Today I went out to my plane to fly and found a very odd problem. When
I started the plane after taxiing over the fuel, I could only get it to
run when the mixture was just at the edge of idle cut off. Moving it
even 1/8 forward caused the engine to die right away.
I did some diagnostics. At 1500...

Cirrus and maneuvering by
Peter Dohm
I received this link from a friend who is building an RV-8 and subscribes to
the RV-Lists.
http://philip.greenspun.com/flying/cirrus-sr20
It is a rather detailed review of the Cirrus SR-20 and SR-22. I was
reminded of some inpressions that I had sitting in one at an AOPA
convention, and...

Dirty Laundry by

Here is the theme song for the TV news coverage of the Lidle crash:
Don Henley, Dirty Laundry, from I Can't Stand Still album
"I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry
Well, I coulda been an actor, but I...

Why are the yokes always turned? by
Mxsmanic
Why does it seem that the control yokes of small aircraft are always
turned completely to one side or the other in photographs? Is there
some sort of convention about doing this? A safety reason? Why is it
so common?

Finally! by
Wizard of Draws
I've waited nearly 3 years for this day, and so has the Little Man.
Over the course of the last few months, every time I've left the house on a
Sunday to go fly, the Little Man has known where I was going and would say
in a small, plaintive tone, "I need to go fly with Papa."
There is no greater...

"License to taxi" by
Mxsmanic
In the movie _Airport_ (1971), the airport manager mentions that Joe
Patroni, the miraculous mechanic who gets a stuck 707 off the runway,
is "licensed to taxi." Is there really such a thing as a license to
taxi??

An actualy flying related post: eFlyBook by
Viperdoc
Previously I had purchased an eFlyBook from MyAirplane.com, based upon
reports from OSH. It is a small (around 8x10inx0.5) plastic cased screen
that utilized a new technology of digital ink (black and white only at this
time, compared to Sony's proprietary product)/
On it in the memory are ALL...

Death Valley by

"Pilot Getaways" magazine made reference to a landing strip in Death
Valley. I can't find it on my charts. The name is "Chicken Strip" and
is within the park boundries. Does anyone have information on this
strip? Also, I have heard that Furnace Creek has Avgas, but it is not
designated on my...

Right seat policies by
Mxsmanic
In small aircraft, if I understand correctly, there's no law that says
you can't put anyone you want in the right seat, as long as there's a
licensed pilot in command. So, what are your right-seat policies? Do
you put passengers in the seat? Only other pilots? Kids? Do you
ever have your pilot...

attitude stuff and 1st time in a tail dragger. First off, hats off to all
those who fly taildraggers. That takes some foot work.
Spins weren't...

Beacons/anticollision lights and engines by
Mxsmanic
I understand that one normally turns on beacons or anticollision
lights whenever an aircraft's engines are running. Is this a
regulation, or just a polite custom?
