What flying is all about... by
Jay Honeck
http://alexisparkinn.com/2006_madeline_island.htm
Finally got 'round to putting together these pix from our flight to
Madeline Island in June. What a great place to visit -- and what a
fantastic use for an airplane!
I wish I could show these photos to every pilot-wannabee in the U.S.
GA would be...

Insurance by
Mark A. Deal
I passed my checkride two months ago and now rent aircraft from my flight
school.
Can anybody give me the FL20 overview of the insurance I should be carrying
and why I'll need it?
Father of three, husband of one, self employed. :~)
Thoughts?

The Holy Shroud by
Acrux
Back from Africa, where I was a secular missionary in the Kayon
Ghozi's leprosary (Burundi) because of health reasons, I wrote these
lucky Flashes of mine, which got a resounding success ,on Turin's
HOLY SHROUD.
Prof. Harry Gove, which made the Holy Shroud date back to the
middle-ages in 1988 by...

Rolls-Royce O-200? by
[email protected]
pardon my ignorance...
Is a rolls-royce O-200 the same as a continental O-200?
I mean specifically same overhaul times, same parts, same maintence,
etc?
I'm interested in a homebuilt with one but don't want to get into some
orphan engine.
Thanks,
Ryan in Madison

Landing Fees at Aspen, CO by
gman
Hello All,
Has anyone here flown into aspen lately in a single? A few years back,
when the landing fee was $5, if you landed there and taxied to the end
and took off again without going to the FBO, you did not get dinged for
the landing fee (which is $9 now). Is that still true?

medical question by
Emily
I've been running a 102 degree fever for the past two weeks and have
been so tired I can barely get to work. Finally made a doctor's
appointment (with a new doctor) today, but wasn't planning on getting in
the same day and had taken Tylenol for the fever...so no fever when I
showed up.
Long...

Stucdent Pilot PIC Time by
William Snow
Around our flight school there seems to be dissention as to whether a
student pilot, post solo, can log pic time when there is no CFI in the
airplane.
It looks like the FAR says they can as they are the sole manipulator. What
is the group consensus??

Why Isn't Vx The Best Rate Of Climb? by
RandyL
Here is something that I have always wondered about, but have yet to
hear a good explanation for. Vx is the best angle of climb speed for an
aircraft. Vy is the best rate of climb for an aircraft. I can't seem to
visualize why Vx is not the best rate of climb. To my feeble way of
thinking, Vx -...

Birds at Altitude by
Judah
What's the highest altitude that you ever saw a bird swoop past your plane?
The other day I was flying at 5000' MSL, over land that was mostly about
1000' (so 4000' AGL) and saw a flock of birds, hawks of some sort I think,
one of which came close enough to make me quite nervous (although from...

Best place for CG along roll axis by
Mxsmanic
After constantly struggling with a heavy nose in several aircraft it
occurred to me that having a fat pilot in front and nothing else was
moving the CG forward. I put some weight in back and moved the CG
further back over the wings, and handling improved greatly. Is there
a way (other than...

Raw FAA IFR flight plan data by
Ron Garret
Does anyone know where I can get the raw data that is used by flight
tracking sites like flightaware? I don't need the radar tracks, just
the flight plans.
Thanks,

Mooney 201 question by
[email protected]
Hello
I am looking at Mooney 201 airplanes, due to their performance and good
fuel consumption, and had a few questions.
1) Which model year is more desirable than other years (SB's, ADs, etc
reasons...) ?
2) Which year did the tan colored panel come out? Can an older 201 be
retrofitted with...

Two conveyor belt scenarios by
[email protected]
An airplane lands on a conveyor belt that's moving at a constant speed
of Vref
(a) in the direction of the airplane's landing
(b) in the opposite direction of the airplane's landing
What do you suppose will happen? (b) will be rather more dicey than
(a), methinks. Presume a healthy long runway...

Get-Home-Itis, Arrogance, or What? by

This accident was posted on the newsgroups right after it happened. Now
published on the NTSB website, which gives us more info than the 6pm news.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family left behind, but with that
said.....How can you throw everything you learned in Flight Training about...
