My trip report from Seattle to Rochester NY by
M
I'm reposting a 3-part trip report originally sent to the Grumman
owner's mailing list:
Day 1:
I'm sitting in a hotel room at Glasgow, Montana, after about 6 hours in
my Grumman Traveler. It's hard to believe that it was merely this
morning when I left my house at Seattle and embarked on my...

James Bond "Casino Royale" 747 by
Kingfish
I found some cool photos of a retired 747-200 used in the new Bond film
Casino Royale. Interesting how they podded the engines and added wing
tanks and exhaust chevrons. Those Hollywood guys never cease to amaze..

Part 121 Regulations Question by
GS
I'm a PPL-ASEL-IA and familiar with Part 91 of course. I'm also a
frequent flier (a 1K in fact....100k plus miles per year). I often hear
flight attendants (FA's), TSA, etc. saying "oh you can't do that. it's
against the security regulations since 9/11." Many times I think or
know that...

Crashing on takeoff... how odd by
[email protected]
I remember a recent discussion with a pilot mate where I was mentioning
how illogical a crash-shortly-after-takeoff is, given that beyond V1
takeoff can safely be continued even with just one good engine. I'd
even told him that if I saw an aircraft airborne following takeoff, I'd
presume it...

Fun canyon flying by
Robert M. Gary
After 2 years without touching the controls of a seaplane I had the
pleasure of grabbbing a CFI and going out and getting my phase 1 sea
wings. Boy, what a blast. We went up to the foothills and did some
canyon flying. Its amazing that flying 10 feet over the water at 60 mph
in close proximity to...

What's up with Airnav by
Andrew Sarangan
For the past several months, I have had very slow response from
Airnav.com, and sometimes no response at all. Right now I am getting
'cannot find website'. Anyone else experiencing this? It has been so
unreliable that I am ready to switch if there is another one like it.

Problem with trim? by
[email protected]
Scenario: A commercial jet goes to take off from a runway (major
airport here in the US), gets halfway down the runway with engines
going strong and then slows down and taxis back. It goes back around
again for another try and the captain comes on the intercom and says
there was "a problem with...

GNS 530... Any experts? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I work for a company that will have a fleet with 430/530 stacks
integrated, and we will be flying some very specialized missions with
them.
I have some specific questions regarding datacards, route planning, nav
points and data sharing. If you can help me, please reply to this and
I'll...

Red Bull Air Races.. by
Dan
Anyone ever been to the Red Bull air races? They look interesting.
There is one in San Francisco in October, but I have heard that the
non-US ones are the best because of more lax regulations (i.e. flying
under bridges, etc.) Anyone have any info?

Flying to Teterboro by
RNR
I'd appreciate some guidance from the New York area folks on flying in
to Teterboro. I have to fly there for the first time next week. My
typical flying is in a much more relaxed envirronment than this and I
don't want to create any problems for myself or ATC.
My biggest concern is who to talk...

CNN uses "special software" for KLEX simulation: Microsoft Flight Simulator by
Mxsmanic
See
http://tinyurl.com/j3hy3
This "special software" bears an uncanny resemblance to the Microsoft
Flight Simulator that I played with last night. In fact, I tried the
very same thing on my PC last night that CNN is now using in its
highly scientific demonstration today. I didn't mention my...

Safety: Planes vs Bikes by
Charles Talleyrand
I fly a small airplane (a Cessna 150) that is well maintained. I fly
over forests in good weather and typically during the day. My biggest
fear is the engine quits over the forest and I have no place to make a
deadstick landing except the tops of large trees.
I drive a moderate motorcycle (a...

A doubt on cabin aircon by
[email protected]
I've been on aircraft departing from Dubai during summer and wished I
wasn't before engine bleed air starts running the aircon, because for
some reason the cooling doesn't seem to have quite the same effect when
running from APU power, at least on the A3xxs.
Since this is certainly not something...
