Oshkosh arrivals by [email protected]
My wife and I drove down from our home in Appleton to Oshkosh today (Sunday the 23rd) for a few hours to watch arrivals. We saw the first Cessna 172 land and we were at AeroShell Square to see them pull it onto the display ramp. Way cool! On my scanner we heard some guy in a Cessna 180...

LAT/LONG waypoints in Garmin 430 by [email protected]
I freuently rent a C-172 with a Garmin 430. I have the simulation for my laptop and the user manuals, but I can't figure out how to enter waypoints that are just lat/long. The 430 will use airports and named airway points, but I want to enter a set of points to track flying up the coast where there...

GPS loss of signal explanation by Jay Honeck
http://www.scn.org/~bk269/gps.html This is an interesting site that explains why some pilots (seemingly mostly running Garmin-brand portable GPS units) are having trouble with losing satellite lock. So far I've not had any trouble with our new 496 (and I've never had any trouble with the Lowrance...

Manufacturing Quality by Jim Carter
I used to believe the same thing about GMC and Chevy, only cosmetic differences. But now after owning two GMC Sierras I am beginning to suspect some other differences. Even though the use hasn't changed, the GMCs require about 1/2 the maintenance as the Chevys did. Simple things like sticky...

Joyriding dope gets another year to chill by Kingfish
Read this on AvWeb yesterday: A young man who according to his sentencing judge loaded two young friends aboard a Cessna 172 in Danbury, Conn., and flew it for three hours before landing almost out of fuel and "drunk" at Westchester, N.Y., will have another year in jail to think about that...

Oshkosh Pictures and The Story of The Missing Picture by Longworth
This was our first Oshkosh trip. We camped for less than three days but took lots of pictures and some videos. Here are the links to images we took from Sunday July 23rd to Tuesday July 24th. The last picture was taken at my brief meeting with some of the r.a.p regulars at Jay Honeck's...

GPS Problems near CHD.. by Dan
As a followup to my previous post on 396 GPS reception problems, has anyone noticed GPS reception issues around the Chandler, AZ airport? As soon as I leave the ground, I seem to always lose satellite lock on my Garmin 396. I lose satellite lock like crazy in the pattern. Leave the area, and...

OT - Airline ticketing by Al
My son in law purchased a ticket for my daughter on United Airlines using a credit card. The purchase was made on line. When my daughter showed up for the flight, she was refused boarding because she didn't have the credit card in her possession. The ticket agent, in Eugene Or., said "We have...

Why in the world does the AOPA only have their conventions on the coasts. They need to put one in the central US at least every 4 or 5 years.

Renting a C-172 in the Southern Ontario (Toronto) Region by [email protected]
I'm currently a student pilot hoping to have my RPC by the end of July and possibly my PPL by the end of August. Once I get the RPC I'd like to build up the 10 solo hours required for the PPL by taking friends and flying to various places. I'm currently a member of a club (which is where I do my...

Cross Country again! by Michelle
A few of you out there knew I was moving from the East out West last spring. I packed myself and my travel trailer up last April and headed west. I arrived in Montana late April. I was to have a job out of Salt Lake but that evaporated on the way. I started looking in Missoula as soon as I got...

Total fuel capacity was 20 litres in each wing. Sky...

Which color vision test is preferred? by Greg Copeland
