Our First Katrina Refugees by
Jay Honeck
We booked our first refugees at the Inn yesterday -- an older couple who had
stayed with us on vacation in the past, and who lost everything in Katrina.
They are living day-to-day, not sure when -- or if -- they'll be able to
return home. When I asked them why they came so far North to stay,...

stupid GPS question by
Mike W.
OK I am just getting into the VFR GPS navigation thing. Here is my question:
what is the origin of all of these intersections? I see some as airway
intersections on sectionals, but many seem random.
And why is it when I file an airway flight plan with AOPA flight planner, it
always throws a couple...

Another stupid transponder question by
Jay Honeck
The other day, after launching from Iowa City, Cedar Rapids Approach (CID)
gave me my squawk code, as usual.
My usual procedure is to read back the squawk code as I punch it into our
Garmin 327. (It's got keys to punch, rather than dials to twirl.) This
time, however, I punched a wrong number,...

Bose X headset service by
Dan Luke
When I brought the airplane home after Katrina, I stepped on the
headset cord while deplaning, pulling the connector out of the battery
box. Sheer clumsiness.
I called Bose on Sept. 1, explained what happened, got a return # and
sent the headset in that day.
It arrived back at my home today,...

what the heck is lift? by
buttman
I have always been under the impression that lift is the product of
airspeed and angle of attack, and that lift is the measure of upward
force acting on the plane at a given time. For instance, if you are
doing slow flight, your wings are producing the same amount of life
that you would be if you...

death of GA in NY by
[email protected]
The slow death of GA is in acceleration in the NY area. TEB FBO's moving
out pushing the feeding chain down. FBO's now requiring TSA clearance
even for renters (not just trainees as required by law; since when did
FBO's become worse than homeland security?).
FBO's outside of TEB losing students...

PPL Services by
Nadeem Zahid
I just want to clear some confusion reg. private pilot services.
I know that PP cannot charge for any services for compensation or hire
other than sharing the fuel cost. Can someone zoom little bit into it?
Specifically if someone (non-pilot) wants to rent an airplane (also if
he can rent at all?)...
