Museums for Jay by
Chuck
Hey Jay,
I was out at Denton Municipal Airport (DTO) yesterday and noticed a building
that had a sign on it that said "Hanger 10 Museum".
I will see if I can find out more about it in the next couple of weeks.
Maybe someone here knows something about it.
Just thought that it might be an addition...

Garmin GPSMAP 196 basmap question by
DeltaDeltaDelta
I have the above mentioned device, along with a 128 MB data card and
associated loader. Recently, I acquired some nice topographic maps of the
region I fly in and was wandering: is it possible in any way, by using some
program or similar, to transfer some of these maps into the 196 basemap
format...

Solar Battery Chargers by
Jay Honeck
I see these things available locally for around $40 bucks. They claim to be
able to recharge cell phones and laptops. They also say they're good for
trickle-charging vehicle batteries.
My thinking is that a solar charger would be great for Sun N Fun and
Oshkosh -- places where my cell phone (and...

Fix for too bright GPS display by
Jon Woellhaf
On several flights at night, I found my Garmin GPSMAP 295's display didn't
dim enough to suite me, so I finally decided to try to fix the problem.
I went to a local professional photographer's store and bought a packet of
neutral density filter material for a few bucks. It had 0.3, 0.6 and...

Radio waves vs light waves by
Jay Honeck
Okay, here's a weird one for the group: Radio waves are the same as light
waves, except they're not in the visible spectrum, right?
Here's why it matters: As we were departing from Muscatine, IA today (a
beautiful day to fly in the Midwest, BTW -- clear and warm) after a great
lunch, my gaze...

FAA to order fuel tank modifications on 3,800 commercial airplanes by
Larry Dighera
The wheels grind slowly (8 years later)....
U.S. regulators said they plan to order modifications on 3,800
commercial airplanes to reduce chances of a fuel tank explosion
like the one that brought down TWA Flight 800 in 1996. The
initiative, once dismissed as too expensive and impractical for
the...

Question Commercial pilot by
BTIZ
no... if the seal is missing.. he has no idea if it has been discharged..
pressure indicator may show "in the green".. but dials have been known to

Looking for rentals Kalamazoo(MI) area by
Kees Mies
Hi all,
I'm a Dutch pilot(PPL SEP) going to Kalamazoo MI for business.
While I'm over there I think about doing some sight seeing by plane,
with an instructor of course.
Can anybody recommend FBO's in that area?
I like small/regional airfields best, nothing that sounds like

AIRNAV not publishing fuel prices... by
Victor
.... of new FBOs. Apparently they will only publish prices for FBOs
that have a subscription with them. Of course they own the web site so
it is their choice to do whatever they like. But it didn't use to be
this way. Previously AIRNAV would encourage reporting fuel prices on
all airports free of...

Time alloted for your student? by
BoDEAN
What is the usual time block you dedicate for each student's flight?
We do 2 hr blocks. What I've found is the first 30-40 min is filled
with prebrief, preflight, fueling, pulling plane out, and by the time
the 2 hr block is over, only 1.2 - 1.4 is dedicated for flight

Getting through commercial airport security after obtaining a pilot cert by
SanDiego_Guy
I am curious to see if anyone else has experienced an increase in the
frequency of being selected for more thourough security searches when
flying commercially since obtaining a private pilot certificate.
I am not a paranoid person, and am not really bothered by it but... I
am well over 6 feet...

Emergency Procedures by
Michael 182
Had a combined BFR/IPC today. Since I only fly about 100-125 hours a year,
and most of that is cross country, I make it a habit to hire a CFII every
six months or so for a good workout. Today was 3 hours plus, including the
ground time. I also try and meet new CFII's every other time or so,...

Q:VXA-210 Handheld by
Frank Ivo Streckebein
Hello to the group !
Does anybody use the VertexStandard Pilot VXA-210?
My question: The manual says that the led on top of the unit will glow
green if it is receiving a carrier and the color will change to red when
transmitting. With my handheld the led is only glowing green when
receiving; the...
