UK planning to evict N-registered aircraft by
Juan Jimenez
The reason is that the bureaucracy and incompetents feel threatened by the
trend. It is my opinion that people go the N-registered route so as not to
have to deal with the bozos who have gone so far as to tell UK pilots what
airplanes they are skilled enough to fly, and that they are doing it...

Help Save An Airport by
Mike Brown
I need help. Our privately owned, public use airport is under attack by
developers. We recently were required to submit for a renewal of our
conditional use permit. We were asking for 5 years but were given only 2
years. As if that wasn't bad enought now a large developer is appealing
that...

GPSMAP396 Jepp update question by
xyzzy
My GPSMAP396 came with a coupon for a free Jepp update, but it must be
used within 90 days of purchase date (which I will assume will be the
ship date of 8/23). I want to optimize this to get the most recent data
I can within the 90 days. When will be the last Jepp data update before
November...

Granville's Strut Seal - Or Other Strut Maintenance Techniques by
zatatime
When I stepped on the wing of my Cherokee 235 today, the strut went
completely flat. I got underneath the wing and lifted the plane back
up to a normal strut position where it stayed until I put any weight
on it; again it went completely flat. I pushed it back up one more
time and put my air...

Old CHT probe replacement by

Does anybody in the group have a Lycoming IO-540 parts manual handy?
I didn't find anything about it in the engine manual, but in...

Cherokee battery box repair by
[email protected]
Hey all... I've got the plane down for an annual and have discovered a small
weeping leak in the bottom of the battery box (where the drain nozzle attaches). Am I
correct in recalling that the box is made of tin and the nozzle of copper? Will
regular Lead/Tin (60/40) solder this, or do I need...

simple prop overhaul by
Marty from Florida
At my annual, the IA said my plane is in great, clean safe condition, but I
need to have my prop overhauled. It's a 2 blade aluminum prop on a Lycoming
235/L2 engine. My understanding is that it just needs a clean up, some paint
and filler, then a balance and return to service. Has anyone done...

Flat Tires? by
Jay Honeck
One of our least favorite jobs (thanks to our "Fancy Pants" with their
stupid, under-sized access doors) is airing up the tires on our Pathfinder.
I pull the plane back and forth while Mary fishes around for the stupid
nipple. If you want to hear a woman cuss like a sailor, just stop by...

396 plus COM or GNS x30??? by
three-eight-hotel
Hi all,
I was a lurker of these groups for some time, before asking my first
question not too long back on a COM issue I was/am having. Since then,
I have tried to stay active in keeping up on the posts and have tried
to add input, where I think I can add value, but I am well aware of...

396 Flight Plan Data from King GPS by
Mike Granby
Well, I did a bit of playing around with my new 396, and discovered
that it WILL NOT accept flight plan data from my KLN-94 or KLN-90B. The
problem is that the serial data output by the King units terminates
each item with a CR character, while the Garmin panel-mounts send a
CR-LF sequence. Not...

Backward Running Engine by
mbremer216
Cherokee w/Lycoming 0360-A4A
Normal flight in all respects. When shutting down, pulled throttle to idle
and mix to idle cut-off. Engine took just a little longer than normal to
run down. Just as it should have stopped, it caught and actually ran
backward for a couple of turns before...

Evacuating for Katrina by
Marty from Florida
So here we go again. It's just before 6:15am, and what was a storm a few
days ago is evolving into a catagory 1 hurricane. There's not a hanger to be
found on the eastern seaboard of Florida, so we're on our way north. You
just have to love Florida ....

EGT / Tach Fluctuation by

I am stumped as to what could be causing thing and am hoping someone

fluctuating. Not fast but up and down a couple needle widths every
second or two. Then on the next flight I noticed that the tach has
started as...

Garmin/Apollo LS 30 NavCom comments? by
Mike Noel
I'm planning on having my avionics tech install the LS 30 along with a GI
106A CDI as my number one NavCom. All of my buddies were suggesting the
KNX-155 but the Garmin looks like a much more functional and high tech unit.
Does anyone have any comments on the LS 30 GI 106A combination?

Ebay for new headsets?? by
Charles Talleyrand
I'm a Cessna 150 driver looking for a reasonably cheap ANR headset,
since my last one quit on approach at a controlled field :-( Where
should I buy such a thing? Has anyone tried E-bay, or am I stuck with
Sportys? Any advice at all?
-Thanks
