In-flight icing by
Bill D
Some may find this interesting.
Today as I drove home in a snowstorm, three large objects fell from the sky onto the street in front of me. I stopped to see what they were. They turned out to be three metalized Mylar toy balloons encased in ice!
Darned kids probably didn't get a weather...

Position recorders for badges by
fredblair
Are there any activities underway to grant approval for the Position
Recorders like the flywith CE recorder to be used for badges. They
have been approved in Australia, Canada and the UK. It seems that
they GPS altitude would be proof enough of 'no landings'.

Stupid PowerFLARM Question by
Peter von Tresckow
I was going to meet up with a soaring buddy who has a Power Flarm, and take
it flying in my flying club's DA40 to see what traffic it will display. Our
DA40 has a G1000 with the old mode S traffic display, so we can compare the
results.
My question is related to what the ADS-B in capabilities...

These same files will be available soon on the Airspace section of the

BFR for ALL rated aircraft......wtf by
Brad[_2_]
There is an instructor in our club that's claiming the FAA would
"like" pilots to get BFR's in all aircraft they are rated to fly. It
makes sense to me that if a guy flies a twin turbine, getting a BFR
in a Blanik, and then jumping in a King Air is probably not a good
idea.
What about a pilot who...

Initial review PowerFlarm by
kd6veb
Hi Gang
I recently purchased a portable PowerFlarm from Rex. It came with
the old software and I downloaded the 1.2 firmware onto the micro SD
card (supplied) and installed it so that the PCAS function would work.
I then added the security code for my Mode S transponder which
requires you to go...

Moisture in trailers by
Jordan Pollock
Any of you guys ever used or heard of using the old silica packs they
used to sell in cans to absorb moisture? I know they used to have
them and still do (sorta) basically packets that over time remove
humidity in the air...my trailer sits in a dark barn that tends to
attract moisture, so I figure...

Question for UH or other RC personnel by
Mike[_37_]
Looking at the SSA website there are two PDF's concerning the ban on
AH's. In neither one, do I see anything that would prevent me from
using an Android device running XCSoar.
The fact that XCSoar does not have a working AH should make it legal
to use in US contests. Is this correct?
