Soaring Aids Variometer by Tony Condon[_2_]
I have an old Soaring Aids variometer that I am installing in the Cherokee. It has ports on the back for static/TE and capacity flasks. They are not labeled. One is red and the other is green. Any ideas on which is which? Thanks! -Tony Condon Cherokee II N373Y

So long, Tim Donovan by T8
Tragic news this morning from Ephrata (18m Nats). The word is that Tim's glider "entered an uncontrolled flight condition at about 7000' from which he not recover. The airframe broke up in flight and Tim died instantly from the resulting impact." The accident is obviously under...

Experimental Airworthiness by PS
I just purchased a glider that has a Special Airworthiness Cert., Experimental Category, Exhibition and Racing. The "Date of Issuance" was 5/6/1983, as was the Operating Limitations and log entry. To the right of the Issuance date on the certificate is the "Expiry" which shows one year later as...

Flightline FL-760 radio by T8
Guys in my club are asking about this http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/flightlineFL760.php for a club glider. Anyone got one? Experience? Evidently, they are new on the market in the last 12 - 15 months. I have already recommended against based on high power consumption, high...

INSURANCE DAMAGE CLAIM by Vorsanger1
Totally unbeknownst to us, our glider had suffered some damage, probably when it rolled on a rock on landing and the rock gouged a couple of deep holes under the belly. We had no idea when this happened, and the damage was discovered only during the annual when the glider was placed upside down. ...

leakage through flight computer by thomas
I did a leak test on my instruments and plumbing because I suspect my ASI to be indicating low. I was surprised to find a rather large leakage through the MNAV. I understand why the MNAV leaks, but would welcome input from others on whether my observations are normal or not before I open the...

ASTER Global Digital Elevation Map by AGL
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and industry (METI) and NASA announced the release of the ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) on June 29, 2009. The GDEM was created by stereo-correlating the 1.3 million scene ASTER VNIR archive, covering the Earth’s land surface between 83N and 83S...

Low-altitude flight by Ed Winchester[_2_]
Those numbers make sense, and bring back some memories. The only airplane maneuver in which pivotal altitude comes into play, as I remember it, is eights-on-pylons. And I seem to remember that for a Cherokee (airplane) at 90kt, the pivotal altitude was 700'. Your formula gives just about...

Low-altitude flight by danlj
A recent post, in response to a stall-spin fatal crash, was the sort of things folks usually say: ":Generally it is OK to make 180 or 360 degree turns in a modern gliders, as long as you start at at least 300ft and keep the airspeed up to a safe manoeuvring speed. The failure to do the latter seems...

Looking for Left Outer Aileron for Ventus C by Bob Gibbons[_2_]
Due to the unfortunate combination of a pre-teenage driver and a glider club golf cart, my Ventus C has a nasty ding in the outer left aileron. Schempp-Hirth says the ship is too old (1987) for them to have spare parts. Does anyone have a left outer aileron for a Ventus C? Remember, the Ventus...

Definition(s) of pitch sensitivity? All-flying tails by Bret
Hi, I hear a lot about pitch sensitivity. Can that mean more than one thing? For example, it seems it could mean: 1. A glider in which smaller than typical stick movements are needed for pitch control 2. A glider in which the pitch stability is less, in that when perturbed from trimmed level...
