Charlie Spratt's "Celebration of Life" at Cordelle by
[email protected]
Greetings ~
The May 9, 2009 ceremony for Charlie Spratt was everything we had
hoped for! Many friends - from near and far, ~200 of us - descended
upon Cordele, GA airport to share fond memories, sort through photos,
nibble on delightful appetizers and then regroup to hear the
adventures and...

Final Approach Nightmare... by
sisu1a
Art that is! http://www.blanz.net/x-plantation01.html imagining the
lookout pattern(s) is making my head spin! Not glider stuff per say,
but I think most pilots will appreciate this guys work. There are
several pieces to scroll through, enjoy.

Alby Enroute 5/10/09 by
CindyB
Alby is launching again in a few minutes.
Another attempt to go to Jean. Today looks reasonably promising, with
thermal style lift.
Who knows which route the pilot will attempt? North and then east?
Through the Trona Gap?
Hard to say at the moment.
Only thing that is assured is that Alby will...

Schweizer Ballast Box Wanted by
[email protected]
I want to obtain one of the red Schweizer Ballast Boxes that were
optionally installed on the deck forward of the control stick in the
2-33 and 1-26D & E model gliders. I'd appreciate hearing form anyone
who has one for sale or who can tell me where I might locate one.

Negotiations by
RRK
I'm sure I'm not the only X-country sailor who negotiate the lift
deals with the God. You know. You get low, nothing is working, landing
options are limited and there....a little too far away... you see the
very last chance. You have to ask The Almighty for a little help and
have to promise Him...

Day 1 practice Club Class Regionals USA by
rlovinggood
I'm posting this report in the mid afternoon from the cool,
airconditioned motel room in Cordele because no task was called due to
the weather forecast. According to our forecaster, and also from
numerous forecasts from around the area, we should probably be seeing
thundershowers all around. Let...

Questions To Ask Sailplane Seller by
ContestID67[_2_]
There have been lots of comments and threads in RAS about "what I want
for a new glider for a newbie". The answers are usually around "get
automatic hookups" or "get glass" or "the wings are heavy" or “buy a
name a ship”. All this is good and valuable but there is another
set of questions to...

EW Microrecorder Battery Issues? by
ContestID67[_2_]
Has anyone had any issues with the battery life on an EW
Microrecorder? We have one for club use and it lived most of the
winter not being charged. The first real use of the spring and the
pilot reported only 15 mins of recording time (he swore that he
charged it overnight. I charged it and...

Cordele, Georgia, USA by

Unofficial Practice day today (Saturday, 9 MAY 09) for 15m National
and Club Class Regional race.
Cu's to 4,500'-5,000'. Might have been good lift under them, but it
alluded me. Probably 20 or 25 gliders launched.
Big celebration for Charlie Spratt started at the airport with
pictures and...

2 new soaring HD videos testing tail cam by
Bruno
Check out a few new soaring videos I made flying in northern Utah and
southern Idaho testing out a couple of new small HD video cameras and
camera mounts on my ASW20. In the newest video you will see that I
was able to better stabilize the tail cam for virtually no camera
shake compared to the...

Tehachapi, Cal City, Rosemond by
Uncle Fuzzy
I have reason to be at Edwards AFB on Monday, and nothing pressing
over the weekend. I think I absolutely must take advantage of the
situation to fly from one of the many glider ports in the area. I've
flown (once) from Crystalair, been to Mountain Valley airport at
Tehachapi, but never Cal City...

Google Earth viewer by
Fred Blair
I can't find it now, but there was an add in for Google Earth on here last
month that would replay an IGC file; it was so real to watch the tow from
our gliderport, just like a regular video.
Does anyone have the link?
Thanks,
Fred

Very interesting new wearable HD camera by
[email protected]
This new camera was recently announced. For those interested in making
video recording of their flight from either inside or outside the
cockpit, this might be the perfect option. Certainly worth checking
out.
The only bad news is that it will probably take some time to get your
hands on...
