How dangerous is soaring? by
[email protected]
When I started soaring on mid 80's, everybody said that soaring is the
safest aviation sport, almost safer than most 'real' sports. You can't
brake your leg while flying :) Only when you hit the ground :D
Though on a first year 4 pilots that I knew got killed with glider.
Not a good start. And...

On Disk 1, Episode #2 is "Mastery of Flight". Chapter 3 is entitled
"Flying on Thermals" and has a very good sequence of David in the back
of a glider...

Re-shaping fiberglass parts with heat by
JJ Sinclair
I knew the concept was valid from Schempp-Hirth instructions on how to
heat up an early Cirrus wing and put in the twist that Cirrus's after
s/n 175 had. I have a badly twisted gear door (corner stood proud a
good 5mm), so I thought I'd give it a try on a much smaller scale. I
held the gear door in...

Iowa XC at end of October by
[email protected]
Yesterday Matt Michael, in his Woodstock, and I, in the Cherokee, set
out downwind from Ames municipal on a pretty nice soaring day,
especially considering the time of year! we were greeted with about
300 fpm thermals, sometimes stronger, but with wide spacing. Often we
had nearly 10 mile runs...

What am I looking for? by
Waduino
What's the solution to this question?
What's a good first glider for someone transitioning from a CS77 and
wanting the following:
- automatic hookups
- easy to rig
- flaps
- well behaved in terms of stall/spin, and
- climbs well in weak conditions and runs reasonably well in average
east coast...

G103 3000 hr inspection by
[email protected]
The Grob 103 "extension of service life" calls for a special
3000 hour inspection. I'm trying to locate the Grob specifications
for this inspection. Does anyone have a copy or know where
they might be found, online or otherwise?
Thanks,

SRA Poll by
Sam Giltner
I would like to thank the people who spend the time
and decide what questions to include in the SRA poll.
Lots of hard work goes into the poll. I appreciate
your efforts and dedication to soaring.
I am concerned with the questions on the poll addressing
the sports class. 7.0-7.3. All of the...

What am I looking for? by
Mike McCarron
I had an ASW-24 for some 10 years but the landing flaps
on the ASW-27B take my breath away. Truly powerful
and make my all too frequent outlandings less exciting.
For that I am grateful. But I would defer to UH since
he has owned both with more time than I.

Duo Dive-brakes ( Polar with spoilers extended?) by
problems@gmail
J a c k wrote:
I think the Duo's airbrakes are better than many people think. The Duo is a
big heavy glider with lots of inertia. It doesn't like to change direction
quickly. That includes its behavior on sudden airbrake deployment. You
don't get a lot of sink right away.
