SN10B remote problem by
Cliff Hilty[_2_]
I have SN10B with the old style remote (white with
black knobs) and am having problems with the selection
fuction of the dial switches. When I try and use them
to change a selection, they don't always make the SN10
go in the right direction. In other words, if I am
turning the knob in the one...

Retrofitting Roeger Hook by
Chip Bearden
Has anyone installed a Roeger hook or similar device (DG offers a
spring-loaded pin that is supposed to accomplish the same thing for
older DG and LS gliders) on an older glider? The recent thread on
helmets made reference to the known danger of the canopy hitting the
pilot in the head in the event...

Metric Soaring by
Paul Hanson
Clearly metric is a superior system for most expressions
of measurement, but it seems surprisingly inefficient
for flying (especially soaring) in it's current form,
which brings me to my question(s).
Why do metric variometers read in m/s, instead of kph
when the metric airspeed is in kph? Would it...

Helmets by
Tim Taylor
I will move this out of the "Stay in, or get out?" thread for clarity.
I have long thought about helmets for several reasons. I will state
up front that I have not had access to the accident reports/pictures
and autopsy reports of several of the accidents that I have seen over
the last 25 years,...

BRS for emergencies by
Bryan[_4_]
The previous posts under "Stay in, or get out?" raises questions about the
current state of ballistic recovery systems. As paraplegic, I have a
personal interest in BRS because thoughts of my successfully exiting an out
of control sailplane with a parachute, and then landing without the use of...

Yaw-Free TEK Probes by
Paul Hanson
Below is the response I got from Dr Smolik about his
intriguing new yaw free probes, which are surprisingly
a good bit cheaper than Esa probes. The advantages
of a probe free of yawing errors is obvious, especially
if you use the 'Holighous way' for thermalling (mildly
slipping your circles) as...

1965 World Championship by
Steve Leonard
If your Elfe is serial number 1, then it is probably
the one that Markus Ritzi flew. I don't think there
were any others in existence at the time. Although
Jane's says that it first flew May 1, 1964, and that
four others were under construction during the summer
of 1964. And back then, it had a...

1965 World Championship by
Michael Corcoran
Does anyone have a copy of the S&G report on the 1965
World Championship held at South Cerney in the UK?
Markus Ritzie, of the Swiss Team, flew a Standard Elfe
to second place in the Standard Class. I know he flew
my Elfe S-2 (then registered HB-801 and carrying competition
number 74), but I want...
