Cordele, Georgia, Report Tuesday 15 May 07 by
Ray Lovinggood
Oh boy, what a day! Cu's everywhere, even though the
weather forecast called for the early stuff to burn
off by the time the gate opened. The six towplanes
(4 Pawnee's, 1 Cezzna 175, and one Cezzna Agwagon)
got the fleet in the air without hesitation. There
were a bunch of gliders in front of me,...

LAK-12 Question by
Doug Hoffman
I have noticed over the years that this glider sells for what seems to
be a very low price given that it is a near 50:1 glider. But I notice
lately that there are also some for sale on Wings & Wheels with
relatively low total time:
320 hours $21k
260 hours $20k
200 hours $15k
Other than the...

OLC Direct Claim with cai2igc.exe by
Rick Fuller
I use a Cambridge Model 10 logger. I successfully
used StrePla 3.5 in 2006 to claim OLC flights. I'm
reluctant to upgrade StrePla for 69 EUR just to be
able to do the same thing I did last year. I have
used the cai2igc.exe file to convert my .cai files
to .igc with OLC's help and STILL cannot...

Tubercles lower stalling airspeed? by
RichardFreytag
This article: http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/213475
claims that the tuburcles on the leading edge of whale fins actually
improve efficiency in fluid by lowering stall speed. I expect someone
here might have a good sense if this has any likelihood of working.

Transponders Above Class C Airspace by
Jim Vincent
A recent discussion on transponders in gliders brought up the issue of a
transponder in Class C airspace. Recognizing that gliders are not required
to have one since they don't have electrical systems, the issue was whether
one is required if you are above towered airspace, such as Class C.
I...

Survival Landout Kit Redux by
ContestID67
I am planning a trip to Ridge Soaring Glider Port in the fall. After
reading about a recent landout there with injuries, I decided to get
serious about my land out survival kit. I had build one up over the
years and thought it pretty good but with suggestions from others I
went on the hunt for...

Cordele, Georgia, Report Sunday 13 May 07 by
Ray Lovinggood
The smoke from the wildfires had cleared out and we
were treated to the famous South Georgia skies of many
legends. Bases were from 6,000' to 7,000' and average
lift was probably around 5 knots with reports of higher.
Today we had the official practice day. Tasks were
called for all four classes...

Cell phones in gliders - tracking function by
Bill Daniels
It's probably no surprise to anyone that cell phones can be tracked even
when they are not being used in a call. You can Google "Cell Phone
Tracking" and get enough information for a long evenings reading.
My carrier, Verizon, offers "VZ Navigator" a $10/mo service which enables my
GPS...

Cordele Report Sat 12 May by
Ray Lovinggood
Seen the news recently? Something about forest fires
in South Georgia. That location is, oh, maybe 60 miles
away (south) from here, but the smell, and especially,
the smoke, IS here. IFR conditions. Sky obscured.
Towplanes can't get here due to the smoke.
'Good News' are the Blip Maps which...
