NATCA Going Down in Flames by
Jay Honeck
As of today, the FAA has imposed a dress code on their employees,
requiring that they (*gasp!*) NOT where flip-flops and cut-offs to
work! Amazingly, believe it or not, these employees are now actually
going to be required to wear (*Oh-mi-God*) DRESS PANTS and a DRESS
SHIRT to work!
In the face...

Flaps on take-off and landing by
Mxsmanic
At what point does one normally set flaps before take-off? I've been
doing it only when aligning with the runway, on the theory that
extending flaps prior to that would just make me more vulnerable to
wind while on the taxiway or at the gate. Similarly, I retract the
flaps completely as soon as...

I had the best customers... by
[email protected]
I Just wanted to say that over the last 10 years of selling and
supporting my flight planning software, AirPlan, I may not have had the
most customers in the industry, but from all the kind and supportive
emails I received from my customers, I clearly had the BEST customers!
Thanks to everyone! I...

How can I get back into flying by
JPCOYLE
Just curious. I had a Private Pilots license in the early 1970s. I havent
flown since then. Do I have to start over or is there a process to renew
with less time. I know that I will need a lot of retraining.
Thanks,
-Joe

ATP wants a single engine add on by
Emily
And for some reason he's picked me for the honor of training him.
But I'm a little confused on one thing. He claims to have a
commercial-multi, limited to centerline thrust, and an ATP multi,
unrestricted, with 737 and 757/767 type ratings. I wasn't aware that
you could have both those...

Public Announcement by
[email protected]
To all current and former AirPlan user's/subscribers
After much careful and difficult deliberation, I have decided to cease
all new sales of AirPlan on my website as of October 1, 2006.
I started working on AirPlan in 1997 with hopes that I could create a

Get-there-itis by
Jay Honeck
The man was no spring chicken, and he knew his business. He was, after
all, an airport manager, and a fellow who lived with his plane out on
the farm. His aircraft was a beauty, too -- a fine, straight-tailed
Cessna 182, with a handsome new interior -- and he flew it to work
every day.
In short,...

Why are center tanks not used? by
tom418
When you say "filled" do you mean amount of fuel in the each tank compared
to each tank's capacity?
On a B727, there is a limitation which calls for tanks 1 and 3 to contain no
more than 2000 lbs than tank 2 (the center tank), prior to takeoff. So, if
you fill tanks 1 and 3 (about 12,000 lbs)...

Why do I Fly? (LONG) by
[email protected]
You know, this may come across drippy sweet, but who cares....
This past week has been such a rewarding time in my little part of the
aviation world.
The selfish part.....
When I preflight, I hope people see me.
When I slowly trundle down the taxiway for departure, I hope people see
me.

Hanscom by
Ash Wyllie
I am thinking of flying into Hanscom later this week. If I do I will be leaving
late (~10:30, before the curfew).
My questions:
1) What sort of fees are there these days?
2) What sort of security hassles has MassPort dreamed up recently?
3) Are there any extra problems geting to my...

Immorality is good for 50 years by
Cubdriver
Postwar, the newly minted U.S. Air Force decided to name each of its
airfields after a dead hero from the state in which the field was
located. So when the Strategic Air Command got a base outside
Portsmouth NH in 1956, it was named for Harlan Pease (pronounced
'peas' with a long e, not 'peace'), a...
