DEs for CFII rides by
Robert M. Gary
I"m looking at the FAA web site
http://av-info.faa.gov/DesigneeSearch.asp and trying to understand the
strange letters behind the names of the examiners. What combination of
letters tells you an examiner has authority to do an instrument add-on
ride on a CFI certificate?? Is it FIE authority, Is it...

Info on this accident, please... by
Jay Honeck
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/P-38_rollover_planecrash.wmv
This one was just sent to me without any background info. It shows a
beautiful P-38 Lightning, painted in D-Day invasion stripes, doing
barrel rolls right into the ground at airshow center.
Judging by the hair styles,...

Damaged aircraft - should I pay? by
Hilton
Hi,
Right now (1pm West Coast time) on cnn.com, there is a picture of numerous
overturned planes. Presumably insurance pays for this and since I pay for
insurance, should I feel a bit bummed that these owners didn't fly their
planes to safety and help lower my insurance costs? Taking it to the...

90% OT - Cool knot site by
Michael 182
I guess I can make a tie (pun intended) to aviation with the
suggestion that this site may offer better tiedown knots. It's a Yahoo
daily pick. Great site if you want to learn some new knots.

$100 hamburger: BFF Scottsbluff, Nebraska! by
[email protected]
There is a new building, and expanded resturant at Scottsbluff,
Nebraska (BFF).
They built a beautiful new terminal building and expanded the
resturant at the same time. Good food, lots of it, and reasonably
priced.
Best regards,

There used to be a site where you could review FBOs that you had
visited . . . can't seem to locate it. Does anyone know where it is?

Garmin remote antenna by
Dave
Hi All!
There are some interesting threads in some other pilot groups about
these antennas...
Apparently, (I do not have one) garmin has a MAGNET in the base of the
antenna (for holding it in place in a vehicle) that they ship with the
396.. (!)
Slight issue with mounting it with velcro on top...

Trial by newspaper by
Paul kgyy
I feel sorry for the SW pilots who went through the fence at Midway
last week. Now every edition of the local newspapers runs articles by
lawyers and journalists second-guessing every decision made on a
difficult approach - quartering tail wind, marginal visibility, fair
braking, short...

Flying through known or forecast icing by
John Doe
Ok, I know this is one of those "it depends" answers, but I'm curious as to
what folks are willing to do in the winter time.
Assumptions:
Single engine piston aircraft with NO de-icing equipment.
Situation:
It's wintertime. You want to fly XC and there are midlevel clouds in the

An uncomfy Q for the aviators here by
Ramapriya
You're the First Officer. You notice the Cap'n deviating on something
from the airline's SOP, and it's more important than something like the
taxi speed limit. What do you do?
a) Hope the Cap'n recognizes the deviation on his own;
b) Just pretend you didn't notice it;
c) Get the Cap'n a coffee and...

The Scariest Thing I've Ever Seen by
Jay Honeck
As anyone in the Upper Midwest knows, we're getting our first real winter in
many years. Temperatures well below zero (we set the record on December
7th, at minus 19), and snow every day are making life hard on everyone.
Yesterday we got hit hard, with another all-day snow. At times...

Avgas plummets! by
Doug Vetter
Couldn't believe my eyes.
I pulled up to the pumps today at my home base of Old Bridge, NJ (3N6)
to find AVGAS at $3.15/gallon (cash), down from a high of $4.15 IIRC. I
haven't seen it that low since well before the recent runup (probably
two years). Never thought I'd see the day when I was...

Some think so. The Cirrus is arguably marketed to the lowest time
