My "stupid" transponder question now... by
Chris G.
To IDENT or not to IDENT, that is the question...
What do you guys do when given a squawk code? Once you enter the code,
is that it, or do you then hit the IDENT key, even if not requested? My
habit is to always hit IDENT so it makes it easier and faster (in this
area with realatively little...

Kid day at the airport... by
Jay Honeck
Today was "kid day" for us. First, we took a lunch flight with a good
friend and his son and daughter, ages 2 and 4. Then, later in the day, we
did a sight-seeing flight with my 11 year old daughter, and one of her
school friends.
Both flights were outstanding! We had a high overcast here...

Quiet Airliners of the Future? by
Larry Dighera
A new generation of barely audible, fuel-efficient passenger
aircraft described as "flying wings" with "virtual windows"
could arrive in two decades, engineers from Britain's Cambridge
University said. "The noise level we're looking for would be to
take it below the background noise that people...

fun with controllers at OSU by
Mike W.
This afternoon I went out for a few laps at Ohio State. Weather was pretty
marginal, so I did 2 landings there, departed to an uncontrolled field about
12mi away for a few, then came back. I wanted to do a few more, so I was
doing t-n-g's on the north runway. Each time, the controller said 'clear...

Hmm. REALLY not understanding circulation by
xerj
Every time I think I have it sort of worked out, I fall in a heap. I've read
through "See How It Flies", but it's still a bit beyond me.
I can understand why a spinning ball would create a circular flow around
itself, but I can't really grasp why a wing would.
Does anyone have a lay explanation...

That's one way to get the gear down and locked by
Louis L. Perley III
I've heard of this being done before, but this is the first I've seen.
They drove a Jeep under the plane to check out why the landing gear
would not lock, then they used a stick to push the gear forward so it
would lock (Cessna RG, not sure if it's a...

About float planes.... by
Fred Choate
Hey folks......
Being a low time pilot (65 TT), I have a question about float operations,
and I suppose it may carry over to land planes as well.
Anyway, yesterday I took a fellow up on a scenic flight around Seattle.
What a perfect day for it too.....I never realized how pretty urban areas
are...

Touch and Goes versus Full Stop Taxi Backs by
Kevin Dunlevy
A CFI I had lunch with last week suggested I should always do full stop taxi
backs instead of touch and goes when practicing landings. I've frequently
done touch and goes for about an hour when I wanted to do some quick flying,
but I tried his suggestion. I also ran into an old AOPA Flight...
