NPPL to JAA PPL - Do I need to redo ground exams? by
David
I am considering converting my NPPL to a full JAA PPL - I only need to
do 15 hours plus the GFT/NST....
My question is, will I need to redo the ground exams?
....I done them about 2 years ago and applied for my NPPL a couple of
months later. When I now apply for the JAA PPL it will be more than...

Eclipse Jet by
john smith
Interesting to see the Eclipse light jet has sprouted tip tanks.
Does this mean:
1. the aircraft has gained more weight and needs more fuel to meet the
original specification?
2. the P&W engines suck more fuel than originally calculated?
3. the additional weight caused the engines to require more...

Recent Changes in the VFR LAX Shoreline Transition Procedure by
Larry Dighera
Earlier this week, while traversing the LAX VFR Shore Line Transition,
I was kept above 5,000 feet despite initially requesting a lower
altitude (3,500'). One controller said that they had done a poor job
in getting the word out to the pilot community regarding a change they
have now adopted...

CAP Inquiry: How much commitment by
Gary G
I saw a post on rec.aviation.piloting regarding CAP.
I'm wondering if any of you wouldn't mind answering an inquiry regarding CAP.
I would like a bit more info, if that's possible.
I'm located in Maryland, and am going to look into joining.
I'm curious as to what type of commitment is typically...

Does anyone know... by
Tom S.
....about any aviation related "BLOGS"?
My ISP (Qwest.net) seems awfully disinterested in keeping the newsgroups
operating. Posts are 4 to 16 hours behind and about half never show up.
Gracias!

Kid's Aviation Links by
Chuck
I had to look through so many websites to find interesting projects,
learning aids, etc for my son, so I thought that I would make a page of
kid's aviation links.
It is nowhere near complete, but I would like some feedback before I sink a
lot of time into this project.
On top of adding more...

A&P Revocations! by
Capt.Doug
Some years ago, an A&P designated examiner was convicted of fraud for
issuing mechanic's certificates without giving much of a test. He was
located in Sanford, Florida. Nearly 3000 certified letters were mailed out
last week to everyone who used this examiner from October 1995 to Aug 1998.
The...

Fall Photo Shoots by
Arnold Sten
Within the next few weeks, the fall colors will be at their peaks here
in Pennsylvania. Since this is my first autumn with the PPL, I am
looking for some photographic tips from those of you have shot pictures
or videos from the air in past years. For instance, what time of day is
best for...

Fighter pilot question by
Peter MacPherson
Maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes.... ; - )
Why is it that when fighter pilots roll in on a ground or air
target they always seem to roll into an inverted dive? Is this
just my imagination? What's the benefit of an inverted dive?
Thanks,
Pete

Sport Pilot Poll by
Captain Wubba
Hello. I'm a CFI planning on doing training for the new Light Sport
Pilot certificate. I put together a very short survey about attitudes
towards LSP, and requesting some information that might be helpful in
serving this market. It is an anonymous survey, and it only takes a
few minutes. I'd...

Stupid Pilot Tricks - Insurance Co. Trying to Back Out by
Bob Chilcoat
Apparently, the insurance co of the pilot who lost his amphibious float
plane on landing (see "Stupid Pilot Tricks" and Followup a couple of weeks
ago) and parked it in a hangar with a Comanche already inside, is trying to
get out of paying anything since the pilot was on drugs. Not...

CAP volunteer? by
Robert M. Gary
Has anyone on this list working with CAP. I'm a CFI and would be
willing to donate some instruction if they were interested and if it
were helpful. Is CAP interested in civilian CFIs or just those with a
military background? What does it mean that some CAP orgs are "Cadet"
and some are "composite"?...

Allergies and Flying -- Cured! by
Jay Honeck
Last spring, the topic came up here about flying with hay fever. As a
life-long hay fever sufferer, I know what it's like to spend weeks on end
living with a box of kleenex, stuffed head, and itchy eyes -- so I was VERY
interested in what was discussed.
Someone here suggested "Flonase" nasal spray...

First "real" hold (long) by
Dan Luke
Yesterday, for the first time since I got the instrument rating 5 years
ago, I had to hold for real.
It was a reposition flight from Mobile Downtown to Pensacola to pick up
an Angel Flight. When I checked the weather at home at 6am, fog was
reported everywhere on the central Gulf Coast - the...

Mercury another threat to aviation security? by
Aviv Hod
I just ran across this article and thought it was interesting. It's
reiteration of basic chemistry, but in light of recent history and given
the motivation of some people in the world to hurt large groups of
people traveling at high speed and high altitude in aluminum tubes, the
thought scares me...

Outstanding SpaceShipOne Documentary by
Jay Honeck
Discovery aired a documentary on Space Ship One last night, which I thought
was outstanding. It was called "Dark Sky: The Race for Space."
In it, they had many "behind-the-scenes" shots and interviews with Burt
Rutan, the pilots, and even a few moments of the elusive Paul Allen,...
