GPS extension? by
William W. Plummer
Satellites are great for coverage but they are expensive to maintain (
$1B per year). Would it be possible to use all those cell phone towers
as GPS extensions, providing wide area coverage and increased accuracy?
The satellite constellation would serve as the "backbone" which
provides accurate...

The end of the independent CFI? by
Roger Long
Unless AOPA succeeds in turning back the latest over the top foolishness
from the (T)oo (S)tupid to pay attention to anything except (A)viation, I
think we may see the end of the freelance CFI. Insurance is already forcing
most out because the cost of giving one BFR a year is the same as a...

Dear CBS by
C J Campbell
After decades of one-sided hatchet jobs, reporting gaffs, and programming
that appeals to no one with an IQ over 60, you are suddenly worried about
your reputation?
Dan Rather's ill-considered attacks on small airports and general aviation
pretty much reduced your reputation to something less than...

Class C = Class B in Canada? by
Clyde Torres
Does anyone in this forum know if class C in Canada is equivalent to class B
in the USA? I have been told that the USA does not follow ICAO conventions
and is therefore wrong? Can anyone here credit or discredit this statement?
Thanks.

unfolded/creaseless charts by
Dave Jacobowitz
Though I a appreciate aeronautical charts for helping me navigate to
my destination without bumping anything, I also admit to having an
aesthetic affection for them as well -- especially sectionals.
So, I've been thinking of perhaps framing some and hanging them from
the wall, not just in the...

TFR's Read Carefully by
Ron Rosenfeld
It pays to read the TFR notams one's self, and carefully look at the plots.
I have to fly to ASH tomorrow morning. I was hoping to return in the
afternoon but my initial calls to FSS indicated that the airport would be
closed all afternoon (well 1245 to 1620 local, anyway).
So I went and read...

battery he doesn't remember charging...

The airport is Evergreen Sky Ranch, a private, grass strip (2650' long)

or even Auburn to me, but it's listed as in Black Diamond), about 15 NM
southeast of Seattle.
"Diamond Head" is considerably west of there (and...
