Air Gizmos GPS panel mounts by
Brock Boss
We've recently purchased one of the Air Gizmos mounts for our Garmin
296. I've seen it installed in another Cessna and spoken with the owner
who says no field approval is needed for this product. Our A&P, who is
a stickler for the rules(and rightly so if you ask me), says this
product requires a...

MBNA Aircraft Financing by
att news group
I wanted to relate an interesting story. I purchased a small single engine
Piper in January of this year through my business. At the time I had extra
cash in the business, so rather than finance it, I decided just to use the
cash and then
perhaps put the financing in place later.
Well the later...

500 Hour Engine -- What Needs to be Done? by
Jay Honeck
So we've reached 500 hours on our Lycoming O-540. All is well, and it
continues to run like a champ, using little oil. (Although we still have a
minor drip that's driving us nuts...) and pulling like a tractor.
So what needs to be looked at when 500 hours is reached? I know there's a
Service...

Radio Static When Engine Runs by
ECB
Fellow Flying Dudes,
I own a '63 Piper Cherokee with King KX 155s ... the radios both run
fine .... until I fire up the engine. There is a lot of popping and
static that changes a bit with adjustments in engine speed. I have
turned off all other equipment to omit other causes. I have shut...

Piper Archer - Headphones drains the battery ? by
Roy Page
When we bought our Piper Archer 2 years ago the previous owner cautioned
about leaving headphones plugged in in the rear seats.
He reckoned that with the headphones plugged in the battery would be slowly
drained.
I dismissed this caution as it did not seem to make any sense from an
electrical point...

Failed plug by
soxinbox
I just had some engine instruments installed, and I was going to return my
plane to service. I did two power runs, aborting takeoff right before
rotation. These were normal and uneventful. I popped the cowling and
inspected the engine and all was well. I then taxied out for a test flight.
During...

GPS mounting bracket by
Michael Ware
I have a Garmin 296 GPS. In the Skylane that I fly, the mic/phone jacks are
on the panel, directly below where the control yoke shaft goes through. The
the clamp part yoke mount protrudes about 3" below the shaft when clamped
on, so when my phones are plugged in...no good. So for now I am clamping...

transponder inspection by
Matt
Looking over my 152's logs, it appears the transponder has not been
inspected since the altitude encoder was installed, about 10 years ago. Is
it legal (not necessarily smart) to pull the circuit breaker, placard the
transponder as inoperative, and continue to fly until I get it inspected at
the...

Max RPM for constant speed by
Paul kgyy
My IO360 with CS prop is rated full power at 2700 rpm.
Actual RPM on takeoff is usually around 2615. Should I have the
governor adjusted, or is this appropriate margin to prevent overspeed?

Piper Rudder Pedal Pads by
Mike Spera
Thought I would spruce up the old bird with a new set of rudder pedal
pads. I have seen several planes where they have either tie-wrapped them
on or, worse yet, SCREWED them on.
Looking in the ol' Piper parts inventory I see that they are WHAT!!!!!
$84.39 EACH!!! Ah, yes. The old "Aviation...

Remote oil filter follow up. by

Well it has been several weeks since I have installed my Airwolf Remote

A few things the report:
If I had know what the final cost was going to be I would have just
replace my original cracked oil filter adapter. The total coast was
nearly $800. about $500 for two nicely machined...

Landing Lights at NAPA by
Jay Honeck
In discussing our relatively new Skycraft landing lights (the
cut-into-the-leading-edge-of-the-wings type) here the other day, I noted
that I had just burned out a GE 4509 after around 35 hours. This surprised
me, since, being out in the wing, I expected there to be less
filament-killing...

I am thinking of refitting my Grumman cheetah with leather seat surfaces

Door locks? by
Paul Tomblin
The door locks on our fleet (4 PA-28s and 1 PA-32R) all suck. At least
two of them don't even lock at any given time, and we're always replacing
them. There is a guy on the field who replaced his lock with sometime a
little more substantial. But I've seen him doing other stuff that I'm
doubtful...
