FAA Inspector overstepping his authority (I think) by
Screwed
Hi everyone,
I've noticed there are some very knowledgable people on this list.
Maybe you can confirm / dispute some information.
A close friend is leasing his plane to a local school. The school has
had some maintenance documentation issues in the past. A local FSDO
inspector has been a real...

Where to get my MAC1700 serviced? by
Baha
I have a KX170A with a MAC1700 face plate. I was told JA or JS Avionics
in Chicago area can repair this, but I am looking for a closer place (I
am in Seattle Area).
Local avionics shops told me that they would send it to JS Avionics
too.
Thanks,
Baha Acuner

Instrument Panel Paint by
[email protected]
A short time ago a fellow posted a request for information for painting the
metal panel on a Piper Tomahawk. I work at Pierce Manufacturing in
Appleton, Wisconsin, currently the USA's largest custom firetruck
manufacturer. Most of our trucks are made of aluminum. The paint we use
inside the cabs...

Heater Smell by
O. Sami Saydjari
When I use my (cabin air) heater, it starts to smoke a bit and smell if
I turn it more than half way up. I suspect that this is coming from a
build up of material in the heat conduits over the years. Does anyone
else experience this? Should I have my heating hoses removed and
cleaned (seems...

Pressure Washer by
Newps
Got a new pressure washer today and I want to bring it to the airport to
wash the plane. It needs 20 psi to work properly. If I put a 100
gallon water tank in my truck and fed the pressure washer with a
standard 5/8" garden hose and a 3 foot drop to the pressure washer on
the ground would that...

JPI Data Encryption? by
CSnyder
Seems sometime last year JPI decided to eliminate the ability of it's
scanners to export data in the widely used CSV (comma separated fields)
format. When a unit is sent in for upgrade or repair they silently make
this change to the firmware.
The only thing you can use to plot your data is their...

Interior Replacement Project - Day 30 by
Mike Spera
For those who have not been following this DIY project, I am writing the
details of what it takes to replace the seat covers, wall panels, and
carpeting in a Cherokee 140 using Airtex "Premium" materials. This
project is also "scope creeping" to include the interior plastic and
other items that...

Best tug for a 3000lb SEP? by
Mike Murdock
I have an Aero-Tow 200 tug I use on my Cirrus SR22 (max gross weight 3,400
lbs). It works well, although it sometimes requires an extra push or pull
to get over door tracks.
This is an electric tug, and although it does not have a separate speed
control switch, it is easy to control the speed. ...

"We're not firing anybody," said Jones, a consultant whose firm, MD
Strum Housing Services in Indianapolis, was hired to clean up the

to lose their jobs."

No new gotcha's today... Maybe the exhaust is the biggy and will stay
that way. The A & P said except for the exhaust the Mooney is pretty
clean and passing the inspections with no issues. All the control
surface, landing gear, electrical inspections are pretty much complete.
All the inspections...

PLEASE NEED HELP with Cherokee 180 metal bulkhead problem under back seat by

Hi folks,
I ran into a little problem today.
Working on a 100hour just a month before the annual is due -- my
mechanic and I lifted the back seat to look at the cabling underneath.
Lo and behold -- we found a "tear" in an aluminum bulkhead under the
back seat.
The bulkhead is under the back of...
