What about this Red Bull air racing, does anyone like it? by
Sliker[_3_]
I've watched it, but just can't seem to get interested in it. I'm I
alone, or is it mainly targeted for the non-pilot types?
I enjoy the races at Reno, but the Red Bull thing just seems boring.
I'm surprised they still do it.

Badwater Bill.... by
John Ammeter
Oyster just sent me this URL... it's a link to several pics of BWB,
about 4 meg's worth.
They show the Badwater Bill side of William Grant Phillips... his love
for kids, airplanes, a nice looking butt, and how Billy could make any
event or happening even better simply by being there... Bill...

Lancair Legacy Design Flaw? by
Gregory Hall
http://www.youngeagles.org/photos/gallery/Monoplanes/LancairLegacy2000.jpg
Look at the picture. It's easy to see why the Lancair is dangerous. The
horizontal stabilizers appear to be on the too small side. This would result
in their stalling before the wing. Then the aircraft would pitch up...

So tere I am, my usual lovable self, ****ing & moaning about all these
HOT projects that I've been ****ing & moaning about for the last
couple of years, NOW using a simple case of cancer as my excuse for
not getting anything done... and one of my regular cage-rattlers sez:

Stolen tools by
Tri-Pacer[_2_]
I recent relocated to San Diego. 2 days after arrival, my truck was stolen
with all my A&P tools in my bed mounted tool box.
Should anyone in the area notice some unlikely people peddling Time-Rite,
leakdown testers, air drills, riveting stuff I'd love to hear about it. Cops
could care less. My...

aircraft brakes were never designed for stopping aircraft. by
Stealth Pilot[_2_]
some interesting points came out of one guy's query re servicing some
old brake master cylinders.
gringomasloco commented regarding broken brake lines spraying brake
fluid over hot calipers and setting the wheels on fire. hmmmmm.

Roadable Times web site... by

Every once in a while I check the Roadable Times web site to see what new
concepts people are dreaming up. The web site owner seems to have done a
good job of tracking down the latest news on real and proposed roadable
aircraft. But I'm not sure how long it will last in its current form,...

Dimples On Model Aircraft Could Greatly Extend Range by
Bret Cahill
Have they tried dimples on radio controlled aircraft? The size and
speed could designed around the magic Reynolds number = 100,000 where
the coefficient of drag drops precipitously.
Dimpling could vastly extent the range of large and slow as well as
small and fast radio controlled aircraft.

Welded Patch Repair question by
Michael Horowitz
I'm working with 4130.
I have a piece of tubing with a series of rust holes which do not
cover an area greater than 1/2 ", so it appears a welded patch repair
would be appropriate.
Reading 43.13,, Figure 4-36, it appears the patch tube will have to be
expanded in diameter in order to fit over the...

Re-finishing brushed-on AFS/Stewart? by
CB
I'm looking seriously at a project that was covered in Ceconite and
finished with the AFS /Stewart system. The topcoat was brushed on,
with less-than-lovely results. (I feel compelled to name the plane
"The Brush Stroke") It was signed off as airworthy, but I'm wondering
whether re-finishing (as...

Spinal Surgery - part II by

Hi guys.
Thanks for the boost.
It is 2200 (that's ten p.m. for you civilians) and I've been home
since about 1400. But I can't tell you if the surgery was a success
or not. I didn't see the physician after the procedure was done and
they used a general instead of a local, so I didn't get to...

Cancer by
[email protected]
Yes, I've got it.
No, you can't have it. You have to grow your own. You don't catch
cancer. It's not a head-cold or a case of clap. I've been working on
mine for more than five years now. It's called Multiple Myeloma and it
has lead me a merry chase, partly because the first symptoms appeared
as a...
