Thermal Rotation - Revisited.... by
Mark Zivley
I was killing time before a meeting and I was watching two things.
First was a towering Cu and the second was a hawk down low circling. I
wondered if the hawk was aware of any rotation of the thermal he was in.
Then I started watching the Cu as it continued to billow upwards.
What struck me was...

Hobbs Pre-practice 7-2 # 711 reporting by
TomnKeyLargo
Today more trailers rolled in. Some choose to rig and go fly. The blipmaps
showed it better than it was in the local area. I launched around 2 pm and
climb was slow. Almost got splashed with a full load of water but got back up.
At 10 thou headed SW towards some higher and better looking clouds....

Flying a Cambridge 302 with WinPilot Pro by
Ted Wagner
I'll be using this combination for the first time this weekend. If anyone
has an suggestions on how to set tasks (on the ground and in the air) and
how best to use the 302 in flight (e.g., what "page" to leave it on most of
the time) I'd love to hear your comments.
Advance thanks,
-ted

Annoying Habbits? by
Slick
Any of you have annoying habits when you start to get nervous about your
flight? I swallow hard and lick my lips a lot when I start to get low and
un-sure of where the next thermal is. Anyone else do anything like this?

Soar Marfa after Hobbs by
Burt Compton
Howdy folks! Mighty good soarin' in July at Marfa in west Texas. Pilots
from "back east" are visiting us this week and they're flyin' far and fast,
just like the legendary US National contests of the 1960's and 1970's. Johnny
Byrd returns next week to team-fly with us in his Discus, now that...

for a minor injury on his leg. The accident is reported to have happened
in a gaggle 30 minutes after the gate was opened, close to the cloud

I see some of the Sponsored Links are hawking gliders. Not sailplanes;
gliders. So do your part to make these businesses thrive. Buy a porch
glider today. What would we do without the internet for entertainment?
