Cleaning hinges & retaping by
John Wells[_2_]
Some of my flap/aileron hinges on my Mini Nimbus look very damp
and brown. I think this is mostly the old brown grease "weeping",
but I would like to check and clean up just to be sure as they look
pretty bad. The outer seals haven't been replaced for a few years
anyway.
All surfaces have...

ClearVav vs. LXNav by
Gerry Simpson
New glider on the way. Would like objective opinions from pilots who have flown with both ClearNav and LXNav and spent enough time to make an honest, educated evaluation. Let me preface this with the information that I have flown with ClearNav since being an early adopter. Both appear to have...

18m Nationals weight restriction at Seminole by
Andrzej Kobus
I just found out that due to a short runway at Seminole a decision was made to restrict the weight of each glider to 1150 lb. Supposedly the decision was made after consultation with pilots, not sure with whom. I would love to know who thought that it was a great idea. This leaves gliders with...

Inexpensive portable IGC data recorders by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I'm doing some research for our club. I'm trying to investigate what options are available for 'inexpensive' portable IGC accepted data recorders. Our club would use them for SSA badges and OLC competitions.
We would like them to be portable so we can use them in different club ships,...

GP940 failed.. how to feed GPS input to Zander computers by
[email protected]
Dear all,
has anybody any ideas how to feed GPS nmea input to a Zander computer? I have both an SR940 and a ZS1 available, but since yesterday no more GP941 logger (security seal failed, no GPS data on the computer).
I know the 940 and the ZS1 require a special protocol/format for the GPS input...

Gliding International has rehashed its web site to reflect more positively some of the stories it produces for each issue. (i.e. the March issue steals a march with the story on the new 18 metre Diana - this time with a spar.)

Certified logger altitude recording? by
[email protected]
How do current certified loggers determine altitude? Being some are plumbed to external pitot/static and some are cockpit pressure only, what differences are expected?
Does your mechanical altimeter (especially 57mm size) read close to your "glide caculator" altitude?
Are loggers solely...

Dittel FSG 2T Problem by
Roy B.
I have 2 different Dittel FSG 2T radios with the same problem: The multifunction control on the front lower right (it is both a rotary knob and a push button) has become loose and hypersensitive. The radio changes frequency with the slightest touch. Anybody else have this problem? Or a solution for...

IGC - a force for good or a failing institution by
Neil Goudie[_2_]
Some see EASA as the bête noire for gliding but many don’t shine a
light
on
the IGC and costs of collaborating with that organisation.
The outcome of yesterday’s plenary meeting just underlines how far from
reality this organisation has become.
An objective of the FAI Gliding Commission...
